Went out this weekend on saturday and sunday and set up the docoys in one of the little spots where the water was open and got alittle action both days. First day was crazy since it seemed like the birds always came in when I wasn't ready. Only got one shot off that day and got a bird I'm not sure what kind it was but sure is a hen of some kind (post photos later of it). We had just tried calling some birds in when I poked my head to look at our decoys when I saw a really realistic looking decoy, which turned out to be a real duck we missed coming in. Sat up and it started to fly away but not before I got a shot off. The next day I had less action with only one group of mallards coming in right after shooting hours and it was hard to see but I took a drake mallard my first shot, missed the second, and took a hen mallard my third shot. Pretty good for never being able to shoot more then one bird per day. We left for home since we hadn;t seen birds fly over for about 2 hours so we jumped on the near by canal road and spotted two ducks. Stopped the truck, got out, snuck up and when I first saw them I thought they were red heads but with one second to think before I had to take shots I didn't really look at the detail. We canoed across the canal and retreived and was suprised to find out it was a bird we've never seen bfore. Got home and did some researched and found out it was a mergansar hen. Pretty successful day for me but we scouted some other spots we are going to try for next weekend and then the last weekend. My brother goes with me but doesn't hunt since he doesn't have the money to buy a shotgun, shells, etc. but he told me I'm shooting a way more variety of birds then he shot in high school. Also, he isn't the best camera man.

Where is the unidentified hen?
-
I put the mergansar in its own bag in the freezer because I could tell by the color and its texture it isn't going to taste good but I'm gunna make jerky out of it and see how it tastes then but I'll make sure it stays seperate from the other meat. The unidentified hen picture is on my girlfriends camera who took it to her house after I used it. I'll try and get the picture up today, but it doesn't have any special marking to make it unique to identify it.

Hmmm... I dunno about merganser jerky. Be sure to let us know how that turns out...
Nice work though, congrats!

Mergs go to my dog.
Cooked on the bbq, so it doesn't smell up the kitchen. I'm almost banned from that room.

Did you just say "AFTER SHOOTING HOURS"? :bdid: :chuckle:
I meant after beggining shooting hours, not closing shooting hours. Meaning in the A.M. not P.M.

Just kidding ,I figured :chuckle:
