Does anyone have any firsthand experience using the Mossberg O&U 12 GA Silver Reserve shotgun. I just purchased one. The gun is made in turkey and seems to be well crafted. However, I have heard some disturbing comments about firing pins that malfunctioned. I also heard that Mossberg's customer service was Excellent and quite responsive in fixing the problem.

I got one for my brother-in-law last Christmas, so far he loves it. Make sure you use a good oil at any point there is metal on metal. I also saw all the fire pin problems but those seemed to be mostly older post, problems when they first released it or from someone who is firing 1000's of rounds each year. We will problem shoot a hundred times a year so I think it will be a great gun for him. They are a sweet looking gun. :hunter:

I did a boatload of research on O/Us earlier this year. I ended up buying a Citori back in May. If memory serves the Silver Reserve is made by Khan in Turkey. The other big manufacturer is Huglu. They make the CZ's guns. From what I understand the quality on these Turkish guns has improved of late. In fact there are some really top shelf stuff being custom made by Huglu.
Overall, they are an OK value.... even though there do seem to be some issues that crop up from time to time. As 300wsm said, unless he's shooting a ton, more than likely the gun will be fine.

How is your Mossberg holding up? I didnt see this older thread and started a new one a few weeks ago. I bought one about a month ago and was having second thoughts until I shot it. Now I really like it. I bought the sporting model to use as a trap gun and it improved my scores over my auto loader immediately. So far I've shot 358 rounds thru it - yes, I am counting - and no trouble at all so far. Trigger seems a bit stiff but I dont notice it when I am shooting.

I've had one for about three or four years....it's good to go. No problems with it either on the range or afield....easily a thousand rounds through it so far. It's a real nice shooter in my humble opinion.

I've had mine for about 5 years with no problems. It has spent many days in a duck blind. Out of all 5 of my shotguns its the go to for a sure shot every time.
