For those of you who have read my questions about a rifle bugle hunt and boulder creek outfitters, sorry to be a pain in the @$$ :yike: I started looking more into Colorado and doing some research and was wondering if anybody can enlighten me about their draw system. Basically, I see that they offer both a muzzy and rifle rut tag that can be acquired via draw but archery is over the counter. Does this mean that I could realistically buy a tag, put in for both modern and muzzy and if I don't get drawn, go archery? I couldn't find anywhere that said you had to declare what weapon when buying a tag. :dunno:

In Colorado, I don't see how you're going to be drawn for a rifle/muzzy "bugle hunt" without some points built up. It's a preference point state, not a bonus point state. I'm not sure about the answer to your other question.

I don't really expect to get drawn but if we do, then that would be a bonus. No harm in trying, just wanted to know if it was an available option.

Your basic thinking is right you could put in for rifle or muzzy tag and if you don't get drawn you could buy an otc archery tag for almost any unit. There are a few units that are draw only for archery such as the north west corner plus units 40, 61, and 76. And a bunch in north central and central part of the state. Also I think that last year the gunnison basin went to first come first severed with all of there elk tags. Maybe all of the archery tags in the basin have always been draw only. I'm not sure.

Majority of western CO is OTC of elk rifle. You can draw an elk tag there in several unit with 0-1pt. CO does not have many big elk but 300" is doable. Lots of elk in CO but 5 times the hunters.
