Title: Silencer
Post by: maddog on January 21, 2012, 10:41:25 PM: Have a couple silencer questions. Any help would be appreciated! Do silencers affect accuracy? How much? Are they leagal for predator hunting in washington? Thanks.

You can go a couple of different ways to get the guvmint to say you can own one, each has its advantages. This is in addition to the price you pay for your can. I've heard of them going between 200 to 3 times that amount. For your first question, I will let someone else bite that one. Your best bet for info is to find a dealer who sells one. Where are you?

Generally the silencer has very little effect. The issue is people tend to put one on then change ammo to subsonic in a rifle that is designed more for high velocity (twist). A silenced rifle can be crazy accurate--.510 Whisper.

I was running a few types of ammo in a 22 mag in nz with a can and the hollow points would not shoot worth crap. The tipped stuff ran geat threw it. I think ammo has a lot to do with it. I have only put time in with 3 rifles with a can. A 22 mag 223 and 300win. With the right stuff you can now have them here and if you can have and shoot one. I would think you could hunt with one as well.

Post by: carpsniperg2 on January 21, 2012, 11:11:44 PM: It would be nice I want a ar-15 with one. I think it would help with killing more multiple dogs on one stand. They would have a hard time knowing where it came from and you could keep calling. I still do anyways and kill a few more sometime after I have shot. Getting one is on my to do list.

Post by: wraithen on January 21, 2012, 11:17:15 PM: I've been next to a guy at a range that was shooting 22 shorts and you could only hear his ar bcg moving and the ting sound as the case hit the ground. When he switched over to the .223 it was still loud. A lot quieter than without a can but still loud enough to pinpoint the sound under 200 yards I'd guess. Out in the open areas is where that would shine the brightest.

Then I have to replace the barrel on my 10/22 and get the barrel of my 22-250 threaded. Half tempted to buy a bolt action .22lr should have never got rid of it. Eventually I will get the designated 22LR suppressor but for now I am looking for versatility

According to reviews, Surefire Suppressors have the least amount of zero shift. They are also 2x the price of other reputable suppressor manufacturers

I love the ranch and home anytime I get up there I spend atleast 6 hrs in that darn store :chuckle: Dont buy to much there because most prices are a little high. When things get tuff to find i just eat the extra cost because I know they will have it there. Spent a few hrs playing in the tecno hunt as well :tup:

With a big bore, they still put out enough noise to be bothersome, but not so much as to be painful...

I've shot them on a couple AR's with normal ammo and subsonic. The subsonic is Sweet, but of course, it really affects your long range stuff. My short term goal is to have a nice AR with one... unreal for Prairie dogs...dogs never go down if they are out a couple hundred yards or more.

Used one on a 243 and it was sweet as well. Did not affect accurracy of either AR's or the 243, with the ammo we were using.

My buddy has a Walther P22 with one. That is SWEET! Almost no sound and with subsonic, you only hear the action cycling.

I think for around $600 total you can get your permit, get a decent suppressor and have your barrel threaded.
