Really? :chuckle: Nice pic.
-
Yep, one year I turned down a couple dozen bulls like him....tag soup needs more salt.
-
Yea tag soup is never good. I shot the first bull over 320" with my tag and glad I did, it was a bad season for that tag I heard.
-
whack him
-
one more year.
-
If I had your season, I'd wait 5 more years. ;)
-
Boom Whap....

:chuckle: im sure you get way more satisfaction out of shooting em with your camera than i would with any weapon. you have a great talent
-
he's a solid representation of a washington bull , most elk hunters would be happy with that bull.

I do enjoy it, thats for sure, Thankyou. Johnnys sprinkled on my HD card doesn't taste very good though. LOL

This is true most places elk are hunted. Only a very small percentage of bulls taken in North America are larger than this bull.

Great photo and bull.....
-
Great pictures....as always
-
Nice, Bone. He'd be alright by me.

I thought Johnnys made everything better. :dunno:
-
Looks like the bull you photoed for the cover of the regs.
-
It does look very similar.
-
Different mountain range, so probably not him.
-
Have you done much in the Blues Doug? I don't recall having seen any, although I am sure I have not begun to scratch the surface of the miles of pics you have.
-
I haven't much at all Woodchuck. I almost did a trip this year but went to hunt with Hornseeker in Montana instead. I have a big basin I want to backpack into and spend a couple days. It used to have huge bulls even when it was open season on them. I haven't been in there since its been selective. I'm guessing there are hawgs in there that are NEVER seen. Even by th e mossyback boys.
-
If you ever decide to try it, drop me a line. I may have an idea on a spot or two that might hold good photo op's...for bigfoot of course. :chuckle:
-
COOL. Thank you.
-
300" 6 point cant let that walk unless i 100% sure their was a bigger bull close in the neighborhood. most hardcore elk hunters kill one bull like that in their lifetime if they are lucky.
-
COOL. Thank you.
You are very welcome.

Boom Whap....
...and thud!!

Yet again Bone, you continue to amaze me with the quality of pics you post. Keep them coming.
-
yes keep them coming you do take some amazing pic's
-
I would for sure. Age and area doesnt always mean every bull will be a 400 incher. Some seem to grow better than others and some seem to just lack the growth. I think killing a bull in his prime or just on his way down is a good feet no matter how large (or lack there of) it may be. I think he is a great bull
-
I've drawn three pretty good quality elk tags in my life - all within a 6 year period.
I've never hunted where I'd have thought twice about taking that bull. I shot a bull similar (a little smaller from the looks) to that one and then the next day saw a MONSTER. I didn't regret taking the one did for a moment.
The only sad part of taking the bull in your pics is that my pics wouldn't turn out as good as yours.
I always love opening threads that start with your pics.
You truly have a gift.....

Thanks Dan-o

Nice lookin critter there bone. I'd hang a tag on him too, ate tag soup this year for elk, and you're right, it don't taste worth a darn!
-
I'm glad to hear Bone has an idea of an upper limit for standards *phew*
;)
-
The longer its been since I shot a moose (ie....one or two full freezers), the lower those standards drop. Its much easier to be selective when the shelf is full of meat. :)

It's funny how that works. The last 4 years I've been far more selective than years past because I couldn't fill my freezer anyway (can't bring the meat back to Germany). I was especially selective this year since it would be the last year here in Germany, and starting next year I'll be putting meat in the freezer again. Some of those deer that got a free pass these last few years may not be so lucky in 2012.
As for the elk in this thread, I wouldn't even hesitate at pulling the trigger.
