I was wondering if anyone had any good tips on getting these this critters outta the thick brush here. I live south of tacoma just outside Eatonville.
Any good tricks would be helpful.
Thank you
This is whats behind my house. It is about 60 yards to the arrow and its a main game trail. This pic is takin from in a tree on my property. The thicket at the arrow is about 20 yards deep then behind that another little clearing and then beyaond that an old clear cut. And big timber about 60 or 70 yards to the left.

House cat in a bird cage.
-
i only have one out four left because the coyote liked them more then me so now its inside cat. And wife wont go for it. LOL
-
Benelli with buckshot might work
-
I got to get them in the open first. How do I do that. I know how to shoot them. LOL
-
bait them it works real well
-
Bait with what?
Would dog food work? Like the cheapest brand they sell? :dunno:
-
does that predator bomb work that ive seen at i think walmart and cabelas had some too I think.
-
Apples....not kidding either.
-
for coyote apples really
-
Who sells apples brand dog food? :dunno: :chuckle:
-
Yep...little turds kept stealing them when id put them out for deer.
-
Bait. Any scraps from another hunt. I freeze scraps from my deer kill for the year and from ducks. Neighbor cats work great to :chuckle: If I don't have that, then just a call of a bunny.
-
I actually have some feral cats that I've thought about borrowing and throwing in a small cage as a decoy. Anyone know how to p/o a kitty without actually being there to make it vocal and without hurting it?
-
A little electricity always helps :o
-
i use table scraps and ssssssssshhhhhhhhhhh road kill
-
So basically i need some kinda bait and luck to get them in the open here.
-
No but using bait will up your odds pretty quickly. If I get a chance I'll make a baitsicle and let you try it out. It's not likely to be an option for me to do this year though.
-
i have an old turkey i might try and wire to a little tree out back.
-
Just cut it up, add some sort of blood and if you can some brain, puree, place in 5 gallon bucket with a stick in it and freeze it. Once frozen remove from bucket, place stick in ground and give it a little while. They will be there soon.

i thick i will try something like that
-
Before i go and do this i will have to check the regs.. Because i know it is illegal to bait bear and cougar. Can you you bait coyotes though?

It is legal to bait coyotes - bobcat - and cougar !!!! just not bears !

Can I just point out that he decided to verify what he heard on a forum? Some people (including myself) Should do this a little more often. Trust but verify!

Hounds is the way to go if you want to cat hunt. ( Of course not in this state unfortunately. ) But I just wasn't sure if you could bait coyotes, bobcat and cougar. Them legally. Because if a warden catches you on a bait site there is no real way to claim you are not baiting bears. And you will be hard pressed to prove to them otherwise.
And every cougar that Ive heard of being shot and sealed got questioned about using hounds when it got sealed.
A couple friends of mine have drawn the gardner cougar hound hunt a few times now and have tagged out every year. Seems to be a good place to find them. nice cats too all of them were well within the 150lbs mark or bigger.

nice ones there....
-
I've not gone for a yote yet but reading all this has got me thinking. I got this guy last year on our property and I know we have a constant supply. Hmmmm.
-
Nice. What area?
-
Outside of Snohomish. I'm only on 5 acres but see plenty. Especially if I throw out a Costco chicken carcass. :chuckle:
-
Ya im thinking thats going to be the ticket. I got some small wire that i might tie it to a tree with and sit out there at night with the spot light.
-
I use a call to bring them in and an electronic decoy to catch their attention once they come in. Start with a howl, wait a few minutes then do a small animal distress sound. If there's coyotes around they should show up pretty quick. Once you shoot the first one, immediately use a distressed pup call to draw the others out. I live in Tacoma, let me know if you want some company....always looking for places on the west side :)

Here is what I did when I shot my cougar.... just like you see in Africa :dunno: After I shot my deer I took all the meat off the bones and went to where I knew one was hanging out and pulled it up in a tree .....I did this twice and the second time night night kitty !!!!
-
Never have much luck gettin them to break cover down here so I just started calling inside the cover. Works pretty good for me.
-
Great vids Kain! I plan on going out this weekend to bag some yotes that have been eating my buddy's chickens (7 so far).
-
what i done is dumped table scraps out once a week the same time every week after a few week they would show up less the 2 hours after i left. in 5 months i got over 1000 pics of yote. i stoped when i started getting a lot of bears coming in but we would shoot the yotes and skin them. im a bow hunter so i didnt get that many but it worked and was fun
-
I went out back today and they have been all over the place back there. I think once they realize there is food they should continue to return to that spot. I think with how thick the brush is out back im going to try to call at night. That might work better. I think there is just to much going on in the day time with everyone around me running chainsaws doing clean up still.

When I shot my deer this year I boned it out right on the spot. It was my first time doing this so it took my a while :chuckle: After two hours, there were coyotes howling everywhere, and I was only about 2/3 of the way done. A couple hours later I came back to see the damage they did to it and there was a lot missing :yike:
