I'm buying my first Ar here in 2 weeks I'm not sure if I'm going to build 1 or buy 1. i want to build 1 but i have no idea where to start and it seems like theres several guys on looking to buy or build and even more with allot of experience. i was wounder if anyone would give there experiences, likes, dislikes, what works and what doesn't? or any other info you could to the new bees to the Ar lifestyle

Uppers can be a little more tricky. Best thing to do and save money AND get what you want is to.
Buy your upper. So many choices out there and you can find one perfect for you.
Build your lower! They are easy to do with just a few tools. You get the stock you want as well.
You will save money doing it this way.
There is also several great places that sell full kits. You just add a stripped lower. They have already built uppers and then you just build the lower.
I just finished one of the two I am working on 2 days ago and going to be starting my next one soon.

:yeah: I just built my first AR. I would highly re comend it. it was pretty simple.
There are guys on this site that are a wealth of knowledge. Also check out AR15.com they literally have an answer for every question you might have. They also have step by step guides for building an AR.

agree'd, just built my first lower, it was too easy! Now I want to build a bunch more!

How do you plan on using it?
-
i want to use it long range out to 6 maybe 700 yards or at least try mostly on yotes. Im planning on a 5.56 with a 18 or 20" barrel i think i would like a 1/7 or 1/8 and twist. and that about all i know. ive been looking at a dpms
-
May I suggest a different cartridge? I doubt the 5.56 will get out there and buck the wind enough for your liking.
-
6.5 Grendel, thats what I built.
-
does the 6.5 seem to work well on the west side and is it legal for big game
-
yes, yes, yes
-
Yeah the 223 is not a long range killer. The ft lbs get way low at that range. Plus wind will really kill you on those shots. One of the best ar-15 cartridges out there for longer range shooting is the 6.5 grendel. If you go to the ar-10 you can get guns like the 243-7mm-08 6.5 creedmore. Much better long range cals
The 6.5 grendel is legal for big game .264 cal. It will work any place you can pull the trigger
-
Yep, deer legal, super accurate, high BC, go to youtube and search it on there

I'm waiting for a new barrel for an AR build. Chambered in 20 LBC. Basically a 6.5 Grendel necked down to .20 cal. Strictly a coyote getter.

feature=player_embedded

the 6.5 grendel a reloaders only deal?
I don't reload - but might start I got some friends doing it so wouldn't be hard to set up something.
would be very basic though
-
Nope, you can buy ammo, wolf, hornady, alexander arms

If you go 5.56 or 7.62 I Highly comment the BE Meyers flash suppressor.
-
If I was building a 600yd yote buster, I'd consider a 6X45.
Much better bullet selection than 6.5 and still run on standard AR15 lower.
I agree, you're pretty optimistic trying to kill yotes at 600.
Even varmints deserve a quick, clean kill.

No. Factory ammo is available.
