Post by: bowman on July 22, 2008, 02:50:53 PM
If a bears is raiding someones garbage cans and you shoot the bear is it baiting?

The garbage cans are always kept in the same place, and there not put there to atract bears.

You might be able to shoot it, but I doubt F&G would let you keep it. Besides, that's not hunting. :IBCOOL:

If it is a danger to you or someone, call the Law.
But I agree that aint hunting, it might be self defense.

If the bears are into the trash then put it where they can't get to it.  They will become focused on it for a long time...    Do them a favor and just keep the trash in garage or somewhere else....  Had so many bears eating out of nieghbors trash cans in AK, it became a serious problem, not only for the neighorhood, kids going to the bus stop etc.... but momma bear trained the little ones to show up for free meals every Thursday morning like clock work for the next two years it was a regular scheduled event till finally F & G started citing people that left cans out the night before pick up.

Garbage bears don't taste good anyways, unless you like the taste of tampons and diapers! ;D :cue:

Geez. I never said I was going to sit on top of the garbage can and shoot some half tamed bear.  I just happen to know someone who has this problem and was considering killing the bear when the season opens.

Also wasn't asking if this was hunting or not.  I agree that it wouldn't be very sporting.

My dad knows someone who had a bear that would approach his back deck looking for the dog's food or whatever.  He called the WDFW and their response was "the season is open.  Buy a license and tag and shoot it"  That bear is now a rug in his house.

Best option is to call the Authority. If that fails to then there is no other option than to shoot. But We humans are also to blame for the particular resaon.
