Title: Stoeger Semi Auto 12 gauge any problems with these?
Post by: KenPCPilot on January 28, 2012, 12:02:45 AM: I am looking at purchasing another 12 gauge primarily for coyote hunting. I was looking at the Stoeger Semi Auto. Anybody own one or heard anything problematic with these?

Post by: FALFire on January 28, 2012, 06:03:59 AM: Go for it, those are really great shotguns for the money, I had one, it was awesome. The only reason it's no longer in my safe is because a friend took it out pheasant hunting and fell in love with it so I sold it to him.

Great gun, built on the older Benelli M1 action, cycled everything flawlessly in standard Benelli fashion.

Post by: Jekemi on January 28, 2012, 08:01:25 AM: This question comes up often. I'll give my usual reply for what its worth. Stoeger is a Turkish company. They have been around a while. They have a beautiful, state of the art factory in Turkey.
When Benelli came out with their inertia driven action for their shotguns Stoeger copied the mechanism exactly. Benelli immediately sued them and won in court. The ruling said that Stoeger could only sell the gun in Turkey. This would have effectively ended production. However a team of lawyers and Benelli representatives visited Stoeger, were so impressed they bought the company. Stoeger serves as Benelli's entry level gun. It doesn't have the cryogenic barrels, the energy absorbing system in the stock, or the overall Benelli finish. However, it is a good gun and works well. The inertia mechanism is simple, easy to clean (all the gas goes down the barrel), and works well in rain, mud, etc. You can't beat it for the price. It does have a kick though so I wouldn't use it for all day Dove hunting in Argentina.

Post by: gasman on January 28, 2012, 05:19:47 PM: I like mine and have no issues with it kicking. Spent many days at Field Trials shooting ducks all day with it and am ready to go the next morning for another round :tup:

Post by: marlin on January 29, 2012, 05:06:28 PM: i used to have one, and mine had problems. it would not reliably cycle target loads which is about all I ever shoot. It kicked pretty hard too. i traded it for a winchester 1300 20ga. Much happier with that shotgun.

Post by: Jekemi on February 03, 2012, 08:12:17 AM: Update: Browning A5. Reintroduced looking like the old Browning A5 but with inertia mechanism. It's very Benelli like. They call it the Kinematic Drive. $1,300 bucks though. You can check it out in the latest edition of Guns & Ammo.
