Title: Multi Season Elk
Post by: CamoDup on January 31, 2012, 11:58:53 AM
On the WDFW web site I was reading the FAQ section about the multi season tag and I was a little confused about this...

"Q. How does the multiple-season permit affect the deer and elk special permits?

A. If you draw a multiple season permit for deer or elk, then you may apply for all weapon types on your deer or elk special permit application (up to four hunt choices). You would also be able to apply for both eastern and western Washington for elk."

Does this mean if I DO NOT get drawn for an elk special permit but have the multi season then I can still hunt both east and west?  I thought you had to buy your east or west tag for elk before you put in for special permits.  :dunno: Im a little confused about this can anyone help me out please?

If you have a multi-season permit you can hunt all general seasons: east/west, modern/muzzleloader/archery whether or not you draw a special permit.

If you do not have a multi-season permit, you must apply only for permits that match your tag.  If you have a multi-season permit, you can apply for any special permit (excluding senior, youth, Master Hunter, etc.)

Wow, I didn't realize that the multi season nullified a person having to declare east or west. Makes it that much better.

I think that's as much of the appeal for the elk permits as being able to hunt any of the general seasons. You could apply for a Blue Mountains/Colockum/Yakima special permit, but still hunt Westside archery, as an example.

I had posted a question earlier about archery vs muzzy elk this year but if I draw the multi, I wouldn't have to worry about it. Could I realistically put in for quality archery, quality muzzy, quality rifle, bull archery... etc?

You only get 2 choices for quality permits. So you could do one archery and one muzzy or one rifle and one muzzy etc...

Oh ok. I just wasn't sure if it meant that you could have multiple choices for multiple weapons.

Nope. You still only get 2 choices. You just have more options  to choose from.

The multiseason drawing is held before the special permit drawings are available, so that you know which tag/special permits to put in for.

The multiseason tag is a valuable tool just be sure you are willing to pay the $180 for it if you draw. Its frustrating that so many people draw it and then are suprised they have to cough up the money!! nwhunter

I've been losing sleep over this dilemma lately. I've almost come to the conclusion that I don't want to pay an extra $360 this year, so I will probably only apply for the multi-season deer, and just go for the point on the elk. Besides my chance to draw deer is good with two points, and not good at all for elk with only 2 points. So I will plan on, or at least hope for, drawing the deer this year and elk next year.
