Title: Here's A Bass Question
Post by: Hunterman on February 12, 2012, 09:56:20 AM
When a person goes to land a freshwater bass, you can grab it by the lower lip, and it stuns it,, while with seabass it just ticks them off  :bash:

I've had my thumb torn all to heck in a season of fishing seabass, and I'll keep going back.. Ain't nothing like bar-b-q seabass

way bigger "teeth" and they are tough as hell.  You can always tell how good the sea bass fishin is by a persons thumb.  Try atlas gloves and you will never lip a sea bass with out them again.

Never had a largemouth do anything like a seabass, but I am not a largemouth guy either.

I usually grab in the gill slits. Though doing that last year got a trouble hook in my hand and after half an hour of slowly cutting the barbs out I got back to fishing. Which sucked cause either the bite ended or the fish didn't like my hand meat as bait.

I think I figured him out.. He waits until we all have the cabezone on then he puts down the dark bait    :bash:

I've been told by my father-in-law that if I throw any more cabezone back,, they are moving in with us  :yike:

I just use my 50 lb braid to lift "seabass" out of the water, no worry about seals, but I then grab them with bare thumbs to dehook them.  Or, once in a while, a small one is just released by grabbing the jig and flipping them off.

Funny story though....  When I first came to Puget Sound, I was out fishing and caught a little 16 or so inch dogfish.  Not seeing any teeth, I stuck my thumb in there to remove my jig.  As I unhooked my jig he did a little head shake    :yike:  I learned real quickly about their "little" teeth!

There is a natural antidote for that. I was taught that a long time ago that nature has a way of putting antidotes near poisons as a general rule to stop the pain. An old timer showed me and it works extremely well and has saved me a lot of misery over the years.

Kenzmad, I have fished the sekiu area for decades, would love to learn more of the Neah Bay area. If you would not mind a tag along, please let me know and I would tag along and see if I can drag Rasbo up there with me.
