Title: Anyone running weatherby shotguns?
Post by: carpsniperg2 on February 18, 2012, 10:37:52 PM
I have been looking into them a little and just about bought one today until I found something else to spend money on  :chuckle: I have looked at the pump and the semi. I have owned more then my fair share of weatherby guns. I just have zero experience with there shot guns. I am getting tired of packing my bps as my calling shotgun. I really like there little semi auto, its nice and light and will fit well in my pack. They are running about 550.00 which is pretty dang cheap. The pumps are right at 399.00. They have a new skull finish out today that I saw and it looked decent. I also see they make one with a little longer barrel. Its there Turkey hunter model and that is probably what I would get. Just seeing what the feedback is like on them first.

If you are going to spend $550 on a semi get a beretta 3901, much better semi. I would have to say that there are few pumps out there that are better then a browning bps.
With reguard to the PA-08 pump I think its overpriced for what you get. As for the new Reaper skull gun you are talking about I also think it is a little over priced for what you get. Its only a pump with a flash hider, ghost sights and a pistol grip. You can get those same things for less in a better platform (mossberg,870)
I love weatherby rifles, would buy one any day of the week but there shotguns are not up to par for me.

That's the way that I feel right now. Like they just arnt all the way there. The mossbergs are always going to be a couple pounds heavier. I really like the weight of the weatherby but really want to know how it will hold up. I will find a choke it likes and go from there. Just needs to live long LOL

I bought one of their semis about a year and a half ago and it has worked flawlessly so far.  If you keep an eye on the ads at bi mart you can find them cheaper also.  I think I paid 399+tax for mine on sale there.

400 seem's like a heck of a good deal. At the show yesterday they all were around 550.00. I found them on a few websites for around about the 500 mark. I talked to bi mart on my way home and my local one just stocks the pump but they said they could order the turkey model for me. It is a little longer and already has a xfull choke. I would see how it shot and probably stick a better choke in it.

 :yeah:what he said.

I don't know if it matters to you but the weatherby semi is a farmed out import.

I am well aware of that and for my yote beater I really don't mind. Most guns have something that is made out of country. I am not going to spend to much I already have great shotguns. This one is just going to be for the yotes and clients to drag around. Not a personal gun of mine that I am going to have any love for.

that wouldn't stop me either. I just mentioned it coz some people have a misguided hard on for made in the usa / brand loyalty when alot of merch isn't even made by "their brand" in the US anymore .

I handled the 20 gauge last weekend and thought it would be just the ticket to leave behind the truck seat all season for just in case scenarios or it would even be a nice little chukar gun that I could chew up and not lose any sleep over.

but for only just a little more $cratch I could get the beretta, which is proven reliable under most conditions; so thats probably gonna be my back up auto when the time comes. but thats just me. :dunno:

I had a guy last year that I took on a coyote trip do a back flip on one of my nice 700's :yike: So I have learned that anything I put in my clients hands better not be a high dollar gun. If I mess up one of my guns then it's my own fault. Same think I look at with this shotgun. I want something that can rattle around and still go bang and I won't care if it gets dinged up. Plus it is light weight and people won't have any problems packing it. I have had people shoot my pumps that are use to the semi's and for get to pump the gun :chuckle: I like pumps better myself anyways. If it was just for me it would be a pump and not a semi.

I am not a brand slu# like some people. I own 7 different bow brands and have owned more then that. Same things with guns but I don't care to say how many brands online :chuckle: If I like the gear I will buy it I don't cares who's name on it. Half the time I will tape over brand names unless I work with there company. I don't believe in the free advertisement or branded stuff like the bone collector series or anything like that. Just because someones name on it and they like it "or paid to like it" does not mean I will like it or endorse it

how bad does it suck for a guide when the semi auto they gave their client just goes "click"?  I think I would stick with pumps too.

UH excuse me, I prefer to be referred to as a "brand snob" instead of "$lut" thank you very much. I try to stick with what works well and has a good warranty backing it. alot of times those are big name brands. But I do go slumming every now then, I just haven't slummed low enough for Bone collector stuff yet :chuckle: that being said there are a lot of really good brands out there and my man cave inventory supports that.

if some gear ever came out with "The carpsniper G2" logo on it I might just buy the chit anyway no matter what folks say about it.  :chuckle: :chuckle:

Fair enough :chuckle:

Got to make everyone happy and some have asked for a semi auto. That is what I am wanting one and why I have asked about weather or not they will just go click :chuckle:

I do about the same thing go warrenty and good product it can be in my gear box.

I have a brand/name in my mind that I would love to put out onto the market. I think a lot of people would like it. I just don't have the money to put into starting another business or the time. It's a good one though 8) Maybe someday you will see it on the shelves

most all weatherbys are farmed out...i think only 1 or 2 models have ever been made here.
