I bought a new rifle at the RMEF banquet last night in Spokane. It is a Weatherby 30-378. Anybody own one of these and if so what can you tell me about it. I have a Leuopold golden ring scope I plan on putting on it for now, will this scope work well on this gun. I bought a box of shells...... WOW!!!! I hope it does not take to much to sight it in at $7 a bullet.

If you don't reload, start! :chuckle: Very good caliber and you should be very happy with it. With the right shooter and loads it can be one of the best long range cartridges out there. They are a bit of a barrel eater if you get the loads to spicy :chuckle: There is several guys that run them on here. I went with a 340wby instead of the 30-378 but I have shot more then several guns in that cartridge and really like what it can do

7$ a round :yike:I would start reloading if you plan on keeping it.

A freind had one said it ws expensive to shoot and had to put a muzzle brake on it to calm it down

I know a guy here that has and can get you brass. I think he has some loaded rounds as well. Let me know if you want his contact info.

I have one its a monster . I recomend talley bases and rings. if you hand load the 190 accubonds kick arsse.

:yeah:
You won't be disappointed, especially if you like one gun for everything that walks on the North American continent, but you must reload!!!! The 200 grainers really shine in that one. :twocents:

I use Barnes 180 grain in mine, shoots pretty well, but if I would have researched it a little more I probably would have went with a 300 ultra mag, dont just put an average scope on it, go with some type of ballistic retical or an adjustable turrett

Thanks for all the info guys, I don't reload, but my grandfather does. I have looked at other scopes to put on it, but I cant really afford a $1,000 scope right now after dumping 2 grand on the gun. I do not see myself shooting over 500 yards with it. I have a range at my house, but it is only 100 yards and I would want to practice a lot at any range farther then 500 yards. I do plan on taking down to the mountains this spring and seeing what it can do.

look into a4x12 vx3 and some quality mounts those 30-378s will move if not tight as hell. the 180 x bullet performs well but if you can have someone load up the accubonds I think you will like what they do in the 100-300 yard range much better .

good advice from the coach there. I like the one peice rail mount that spans the action and dovetail rings for the big magnums. :)
