Title: Buck with antlers still attached!!
Post by: Oneshot1Kill on February 20, 2012, 02:41:56 PM
My camera was dead so I didn't get a picture but yesterday heading out fishing I saw a muley buck with some does that still had his antlers! I thought those were supposed to have fallen off already? Anyone know why he'd still have his antlers? They looked really beaten and worn.

Small buck?  They'll keep their antlers for a long time after the bigger ones have dropped sometimes.

I saw a 5 point Whitey Friday that was still packing both sides. Decent buck too. I would say high 120 low 130s.

This was from last weekend.  I wouldn't call him a big buck, but not a small buck either.  I just think it varies from buck to buck.  A majority have dropped their antlers by now but certainly some still hanging around with head gear.

I just checked a trail cam this afternoon that's been soaking for 17 days. Had almost 700 pictures of blacktail deer, not one still has its antlers. I think it's time to go look for some sheds.

With the amount of bucks you been getting on cam this year, those antlers can't be to far away.  Good luck BC, you need any help just give me a holler.  :chuckle:

My guess is they will be not much more than 1/4 mile away. But even at that, it really is like finding a needle in a haystack. I'll go out a couple times and look around but I don't think there's much chance of finding any. It's really just too brushy and I have no idea where those deer go during the day. The only pictures I get are at night.

Saw a 3x3 mulie buck on going up the Wilbur Grade from the Keller Ferry this morning that was still packing.  Saw well over 100 deer around Republic over the past 4 days and all of them have shed.

Blactail sheds dont last long. Critters chew them up quick.

Saw a huge buck yesterday still packin...guess it was Sunday on my way from Moses Lake.   Probably a 180 class critter with minimal scrutinization.  Pretty typical for those bucks to still be packing though.

Was that out in the flats?  Seems like I've seen them hold on for longer sometimes out there.

Saw three Muleys last week all three were still packing.  And one of them was one of the biggest Muley bucks I have ever seen in person.  Oh yeah.... and they were in town.  :bash:  Had them cross the street right infront of me.  On Sunset hill right were the Indian Canyon Golf Course turn is. I thought about following them to see if any of them would drop their anlters as they were running, but it was 9:00pm and I didn't have a light.  And I didn't really want the cops called me..... I swear officer I was just following these deer through those people's back yards. I swear I'm not a creeper.  :chuckle:

We saw probably 20 or so over the three day weekend south of Ritzville that were still packing, a couple real nice three and four points as well. We did find a real nice fresh 3 point though. Should not be too much longer. It just took that one fresh shed for my nine year old to want to go every weekend between now and baseball . It would be fun but man that gets expensive at $200 a trip in fuel  >:(.
