Last week I sent to Macks Prairie Wings and got the new Remington Super Full Turkey Choke for my 1100. Lead shot only and claim kills out to 55 yards. They claim 80% of the pellets on target at 45 yards. Choke 29.99 plus shipping brought it to 38 dollars and some change. Two days after getting it I was told about the new Hornady Turkey shells.
They are 3", 12 gauge. 1 1/2 oz of 4, 5 or 6 shot. The shot is a heavy nickle plated lead shot. No shotgun modifications are needed. No turkey chokes are needed. They suggest using an improved cylinder, or modified choke. 1300 fps with lethal results out to 50 yards. Can get them from our local sporting goods store here in Goldendale for $17.00 a box of 10. Go to the Hornady web site and watch the video.

That sounds good, but Ive got to believe different shotguns will have significantly different results.
-
Bob, they say it is all in the new wad they use. Just can't imagine that kind of performance with out a turkey, or at least a full choke.
-
Huh, sounds odd. I don't get why a full choke wouldn't be useful with those shells just like with anything else. I know with steel shot, especially the larger sizes, you can get full choke patterns with an improved cylinder choke. But with turkey size shot I'd think a full choke would work well. I'll have to do a little more research and see what Hornady says about it.

"Trust but verify", right?

Interesting. So it's all in the wad.
Jerbear, I guess you can send that choke back and get your money refunded.

As the Owner, Operator, Manager, and CEO; of the Jerbear Turkey Hunting Guide Service, Bed Bath Bordello, Hair Care Salon, Tire Store, Towing Service, and DVD, Adult Video Bookstore; does this constitute an endorsement of the ammunition? I mean I've seen you in action and your calling skills are superb; so do you really need this ammunition? I figure you could just call them in close, and then just wring their neck!
Inquiring minds want to know! :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Bobcat, I wish I hadn't taken it right out of the package and screwed it into the gun. David while I thank you for writing up all the services I provide, you left out that I perform weddings.

I will stick with my 3" 2oz #5 shot winchesters.... down right kill everything in its path :chuckle: But being the hornaday fan I am I may just need to try a box :dunno: :chuckle:  just remember when using these high class turkey chokes you best be squeezing the trigger just like your rifle because any bird inside 20-25 yrds its like shooting a bullet and if you pull up and jerk ..... well lets just say ......boooom GOBBLE GOBBLE boooom GOBBLE GOBBLE AS HE RUNS OFF :chuckle: :chuckle: Yes much as I seriously hate telling you this happened to me once and good by turkey choke .... I use just a full choke now and I am not worried about the bird that holds up at 45 to 50 yrds ....he will get rolled :yeah:
