Title: Cost of Bull Elk Shoulder Mount, any Recomendations
Post by: TeacherMan on July 26, 2008, 07:56:31 PM
I was just sitting in my living room trying to decide where a bull would even fit when my wife asked me the all important questions "how much" My response was probable no more than my bear rug last year. What prices am I going to be looking at and any recommendations of who to have do it. Thanks

If anyone is a taxidermist on the website and are looking for a deer hunt and would be willing to do a partial trade I would also be intersted. I would give you a great whitetail late hunt or early season mule deer hunt, 13 for 15 last year all three point or better, biggest a 11x13 and a 6x8, several 4's and 5's

Teacherman,

I would look at spending anywhere between $750 and $900 on average for a Shoulder Mount Elk.  Though I have seen a few shops higher and a few shops lower.  So it really depends on who you take it to.  Prices will vary from one shop to another.  Your best bet will be to check several taxidermists out.  Choose one that does quality work.  Quality will out last the price.

:yeah: Just for comparison, I'm 850 for a regular shoulder and 975 for bugling but that may go up. Definately check the taxidermists work out before season and compare the work then figure out how much your willing to spend.

Not officially, everyone in Western Washington thinks so. I started guiding when I was in college and since then I have had several groups of guys that I take out every year. Everything from moose to bear to deer. Some just want does, others want trophies. I accommodate to what they want and what they can do. There are some really big mule deer in my country, you just have to be able to walk 3-5 miles. 170+ class bucks are there, we ususally get one or two a season, last year we took a 190. The whitetail are my specialty, if you are an archer I really like the late hunt in 101. I've personally taken two out of there over 180. Getting a whitetail out of there that is 4pt or better isn't hard, you just have to have a couple days and patience. Rifle hunters I hunt alot of private ground either in 124 or in 101 in the early season or from Chewella to Kelly Hill in the late season. Lots of stands, some driving, depends of the weather. One thing I didn't mention is that we take alot of bears, three years ago I took 9 different boys out on my football team that I was helping coach at the time and got bears. All different times. Berries...

But as for officially being a guide, no I just like to share my knowledge with a select few ever year, some of those guys do guided hunts out of the state and always say my hunts are better.

Teacherman,

Price is going to vary just like everyone said.  Just depends on how proud of their work they are.  Look at a few and find the one that you feel does the best work.  To me a hundred bucks different isn't that big of a deal, even a little more.  I would rather spend a little more and have someone with experience that does good work do it rather than saving a hundred bucks and having it look like crap in 5 years.  Its a memory you want to preserve and a hundred bucks over 20 years isn't nothing to worry about.  There's a good taxidermist down in the wenas valley out of Selah where you will be hunting elk.  Peyser Taxidermy, Todd does great work and is a very knowledable guy on hunting the local areas.  I have taken several animals to him over the years and been very pleased with all of them.  Expecting a bear back this week as a matter of fact.  Shoot me a message if interested and I'll hook you up with him.
