Dug some bear salami out of my freezer and its 5yrs old! Should I try it or will it kill me! Its wrapped in freezer paper and everything still.

Might be a little funky tasting but if it's been in a deep freezer (non frost free like on your fridge) it should be OK.

Open it, smell it, then decide.

If it doesnt work out, it was nice knowing you :chuckle:

The meat wont be spoiled, just might not taste to good, ad catchup.

Frozen meat is good basically forever as long as it remains frozen and sealed, with no chance to dehydrate. I have pulled elk and deer steak out of the freezer that was like six years old, unwrapped it, and it was in perfect condition. We double wrap with plastic wrap then a layer of waxed butcher paper to protect the plastic, tape the edge down....no freezer burn here...

send it to me ill test it for you :chuckle: :chuckle:

Obviously it depends upon how well its wrapped. Zip Locks alone are a joke for any length of time. Vacuum-packed I've had pretty good luck w/for 2 yrs for sure. Unfortunately I have also proved spoiled meat in = spoiled meat out no matter how cool the wrapping is.
When people tell me that wild meat tastes "gamey" I ask them to buy a roast, put it in the pickup bed & drive around town for a sunny day or two before cooking & eating....that's what gamey is.
