What is the best quality deer permit to draw for an archery hunter? The reason ask is because I am getting close to that 10 point mark and really want to hunt mule deer in the rut. My issue is besides the Eniat they dont offer a hunt in the other units I know. ( Alta, Gardner) My passion is bow hunting but I have been contemplating changing weapons to get more options at a big rutting buck. This decision has really been bugging me because I think I wont be as satisfied if I draw a tag and shoot one from 200+ yards. Any input would be helpfull.

Look in the game regs and find out which units everybody puts in for. It's pretty obvious. On another note you should learn the swakane. There is a general late season for archery. plenty of big bucks in there. Just a thought.

I think If your a good bow hunter then the late archery tags still are your best bet. 10 points arn't a gimmie for a riffle tag .

Throttle no one said you cant take your bow on a rifle hunt or take an open site rifle and sneak close. :dunno: Just a thought

If you draw the rifle tag you can still use your bow....
-
Yup you sure can. You just have to wear the orange.

:yeah:
and 200 yard shots are not gimme quality bucks either....

If 10 are;nt a gimmie how many points do you think you would need to have to have a good chance at a quality deer tag I have 12 for this year.

With 12 you have a pretty good chance if you apply for a couple of the less popular hunts.

It's just luck of the draw... Points help but aren't a requirement... My buddy drew a Desert rifle tag with one point 5 or 6 years ago... I wanted to kill him... :chuckle:

I had 4 when I drew mine in '10.
:dunno:

I apply for rifle usually, and then hunt with my bow during modern season. This is mostly becasue of the options the modern guys have for late permits where I want to hunt. The exception is of course having the multiseason permit which I have drawn a couple times.

Thanks for the input guys.
