A coworker is selling a brand new 9' medium action Rainshadow rod. I'm in the market and am thinking about buying it but have never used one. I've heard good things about them, but have never used one. Does anyone own one? would you recommend them?

I got 4 of there rods sturgeon and I love them! I have used their drift rods for steelhead and they have a great feel to them! Plus I have 6 of their 12ft salmon trolling rods and they are killer! but like any high end rod if miss treated they will break!

I catch fish like these on the rod. Very good again!!!! price is good too

Rainshadow is a great rod blank. I am not sure who wrapped the rod blank but that rod blank is one of the most sensative rods that I know. For drift fishing that would be a great rod. For plunking or float it would be a waste of money as you do not need to feel the bite it just happens and you can hear or see the take down.

I have built 6 of them. I love the 1081 blank for sidedrifting(9' 4-8LB TEST). I am pretty hard on rods and they have handled my torture....It has been other family members who have managed to break a few of them :bash: .... I did build one for my grandfather and he proceeded to rig his rod in his living room, he wasn't thinking and turned the fan on :yike: ......they cant handle a fan......he never even got to cast it!! :bash: :bash: that rod went from a sidedrifter to a drift/light plug rod really quick :chuckle:

Rainshadow blanks make a great rod. Depends on who wrapped the rod and how much he wants, but someone who knows what they are doing can make a really good custom rod using a rainshadow blank

12ft trolling rods holy smokes! ive been looking into having a couple of their side drifting rods built... mallard79 what made you go with the 9' 1081 ? Most of the sidedrifting ive done has been with 91/2 ft 1141 loomis rods and was wondering what you thought the plus or minus would be with going 9'? appriciate any imput

I picked up one of the 1081's for below cost as my first build. I have used a lot of other rods for all types of fishing....I fell in love with the 1081......the loomis rods are nice but I have seen too many break....one was at a sportmans show....salesman wanted a guy to feel a rod, guy said no thanks I have broken every loomis I have used, salesman says feel it anyway, it wount break.....guy grabs the rod, gives it a shake to check the action......last 10" of the rod snaps and falls to the floor. The guy hands therod back and walks off.....I cant afford to deal with that.....havent had to with the rainshadows. I like the 9' because before my son was big enough to net fish for me I was able to net them on my own easier.....now it is nice because the 9'er is not too long for him to use and I still have all the sensitivity and backbone I want and need at a much better price...even if I have sonmeone else wrap it they are less than a loomis..... :twocents:

I've built some of the spey rod blanks, and love them. I've met Bill Batson (one of the owners) years ago and he took notes on what we (a bunch of spey bums) thought of the blanks and I like to think/ or hope, that they took that info to the next level. In the past they had some definite winner blanks and some average blanks. For the money really hard to beat.

My buddy builds rods with Rainshadow blanks. There was a period in which a lot of the rods were coming back broken. Great blanks, hopefully they have resolved the issue.

I ended up buying a rod of my coworker. He said most of hist rods were made from the Chinese manufactured blanks but he still had a USA made one. So I bought that one. It feels great. Can't wait to use it. Thank you for all the advise and reviews.

hey grundy , what did you do with the telephone pole you used last year ? hope you didn't cut it up for firewood . we could use it for a push pole in shallow water .

I teach Wildlife Management at Yelm High School and we use those blanks when we make trout rods in class. Probably average 25 rods per year over the last 6 years and have only had 2 students come back and complain. Not to bad in my opinion.
