I have been putting in for deer permits for about 14 years now and havent drawn a single tag :bash: . And I am looking for a good mule deer hunt. I have hunted in slide ridge before and don't know if it is any good. Entiat is another one that i may put in for. Anyways i would like to put in for a late novemeber rut mule deer hunt so i can get a buck meybe in the 180's. Any help would be appreciated

how many of these topics are we gonna see????
any of those hunts up north are gonna be the ones to apply for, alta, swakane, entiat, mission, etc.....
id look towards the blue mountain foothills for a quality hunt and a chance at a nice mature muley, probably not a 180 in deer, heck that will be hard in those other units but you never know!

-Welcome to the club bud!
-
any one of the units mentioned is a possibility but a 180 inch in wa will be tough I have only seen a few that i believe will go 180 plus in 18 years of hunting
-
gonna have 16 pts in this years drawing myself.
-
I've been drawn three times since the point system started, so I will only have 4 points for this year. :bash:
I probably will only apply for a point, because I'm buying an archery tag this year, and I can't think of any quality archery permits I want to apply for.
With 14 points you have pretty good odds. Just apply for one of the least popular Chelan or Okanogan hunts.
-
Nothing in the blues, check the desert unit, monsters there!
-
You are in a different situation than the guy with 9 points. If I were you, I would focus more on the premium permits, those being the ones in the Methow, Chelan area and Desert. Any of those should be good with some being a little better than others of course.
-
to get a 180 buck out of washington would be tuff but can be done focus on gardner or pearrygin i think would be your best chance!!
-
Put in for the areas you know as far as special permits.

Yes this is very true

+1
-
try the method valley
-
If you only want a 180 buck you should hunt another state or buy the governors tag. Pretty tall order here.
-
I was trying to navigate the fishhunt.wfd site and am having a trouble finding how many points I have.... were do I find this info.? can anyone point me in the rite directions...
-
look under drawing results and you will see your points
-
Go to wdfw click on licenses and permits then special permit drawing results and put your wild identification and it will show you what you have put in for and add 1 point for this year.

Blue Mountain Foothills tag is a whitetail tag.

a couple years ago you could shoot a muley couldnt you? i thought i read that in the book and i was on my way coyote hunting and saw a truck driving up a little road and i happend to look on the hill and see 3 bucks so i stopped and watched. one guy got out and ran up the hill a little and shot the biggest buck, it was a pretty nice muley. this was november in unit 145.

There is a muley hunt in the Blues (at least of a couple of years ago.) But there is NO WAY that I would use 14 points on it.
Good luck on finding a 180. It's definitely possible but that's a pretty tall order.

In that past at least it isn't even a "quality" tag just a "buck" tag

Should have turned him in, you could have got 10 points. There is no permit for mule deer in November in 145.

i was almost positive i looked at the regs after and saw that there was a hunt, this was 2 maybe 3 years ago.

The only November special permits in 145 have been antlerless, and the Blue Mts. whitetail permit. I used to hunt that unit a lot so I paid attention to the special permit hunts they had there.
-
Didn't Jackelope get a mule deer down there last year in November? Don't know if it was unit 145 but it was in the Blues. :dunno:
-
Didn't Jackelope get a mule deer down there last year in November?
Yes, in one of the new Blue Mtn late hunts they have, but 145 is not one of them.

I knew it was somewhere down there, only one tag too if I remember correctly.

Don't let your Slide Ridge experience during the General Season discourage you from putting in for GMU 246. Most of the Entiat/Chelan herd are migratory and will show up as they move through in November headed for the breeding/winter grounds farther down valley.
