Zip lock baggy in my pelican case that holds all of the other important documents! The boaters certification is a pain in the ass so I just skipped it!

"disclaimer on the whole skipping the boaters certification I have a 25 ton masters of inland and near coastal waters from the USCG so I am exempt!  :IBCOOL: "

at 14 feet the only reason I must register is I have a 15 horse motor :dunno:, over 10 horse power must register ( now I understand 9.9 motors), or at 16 feet.
So I do not 'think' I need a 'certificate'??? I just got home from shoping for boat stuff and am leaning towards a small water proof box for a few things on the boat, and putting the registration in a baggie in the box. :dunno: like a lighter a couple cigars maybe stick my little 38 in there when on the boat. mount the box to the boat somehow.
thanks for all your help and advice, I am getting ready for the maiden voyage to put a couple hours on the new motor. :chuckle:
FUN!! think I might explore St. Claire for a while??

Your right you don't have to register if under 10 hp,but look at the law. If the water your in flows in to Federal waters you must pay for tabs. I had to get them for my 12ft boat with a 5hp. I think its sucks. I use a 50 cal ammo can in my two boats. Works great and you can put flares and other stuff in it too.

The bottom left hand corner of your registration is a small section that's made to cut out and have laminated. Do that and then carry it in your wallet.
This is what I use and I've been checked several times without issue.
I leave the full registration folded up in a quart Ziploc in my glove compartment just in case but I've never been asked to produce it.

I just fold mine up and put it one of these, which is attached to the safety lanyard/boat key.

Carl.......Posted this on your other thread, but in case you missed it, I also put it here.

Here's what I use for my boat registration as well as fishing licenses etc.  They come in different sizes so you can tailor them to keep just about anything dry while out boating.  Fairly inexpensive for the quality and convenience.  Target carries them (link below).  Google it (Dry Pak) for other sources.

In the glove box with my licenses and catch records. Oh yes, and a pen that works!

I started putting two pens in there,I dont know why, perhaps the same mystery as the lost sock, but with one pen it always seems to fail me :chuckle:
