I'm just wondering what most do. Do ya pluck'em and cook'em up like Thankgiving or do ya breast'em out and do some kind of stir fry or stew?
-
I like to smoke em first... With a 12 gauge that is :chuckle: Normally just cook em like any other bird. We've just boned em out too and made soup.

I cut all the meat off the bones and chunk it up into about 1" squares and bread and fry it
-
I only use the breast meat, cut it into strips and fry in peanut oil   I still have all the legs and thighs in the freezer from years, never cooked them :dunno:
-
The legs are a little tuff the thighs are good. I think you have to take and eat all the turkey or you could get a ticket for wasted game :dunno: I like it all so it does not matter for me :IBCOOL:

Yes take the meat off the bone, save it up and make peperoni out of it! I don't think legaly you are allowed to just breast a bird and throw the rest away. I think that is considered waisting game.

Crock pot the legs until the meat falls off, mix in BBQ sauce and make sandwiches.

That is how I do most of my goose. I figured Turkey was better eating than that?
-
Chunks fried up over rice with honey mustard and cury sauce. Good stuff. Crock pot with cream of mushroon soup is pretty good too. I agree the legs are pretty tough. I'm going to try grinding them up this year into burger for chili and see how that works. I've heard from a lot of people how terrible wild turkey is. I think it's the best wild bird I have eaten. Love the stuff.
I agree I like it. I have often thought about taking some burger and making turkey burgers with the meat. I think i might try it this year.
-
Yes. Think Arnold Schwarzenegger legs on a pheasant.
-
I usually breast mine out, and make fingers or nuggets out of them. Makes a couple meals. The thighs baked in a BBQ sauce can make a meal for two. The legs and everything else I can, get ground up usually gives me a pound or 2 of burger. I too respect the bird too much not to try and use all the meat it provides. If I can't take the extra time to do that , then I shouldn't hunt them :twocents:
-
I like to breast it, then pound out some slices. And make chicken fried turkeysteaks. With all the fixens. I'll debone the rest of the bird and grind it into turkey breakfast sausage. Also I boil down the carcus for soup. And the gibblets fried up for snackin.

Wild turkey and dumplings.
-
Skinned, stuffed, wraped in bacon, then smoked at 225 for 4-6 hrs. Can't wait.
-
Smoke the breast and stew the rest.
-
I get two crockpots going in the kitchen. I put my breasts in one and the legs in the other. I put those breast in and then cover them up with chicken stock until they are completely submerged. I also do it almost the same for the legs and I proceed to cook for anywhere from 6-8 hours. Once that time is up, I pull out the breast and shred them up. I then have all the meat I need for a huge crock pot of wild turkey chili. Once the legs are done, I gather up all the meat that has fallen off the bone. Spring turkey always falls around the birthdays of my two labs so they get treated to turkey dinner. For the next week, I make them each big bowls of white rice and turkey. It's also a thank you to them for all the great times we had that year in the duck blind. I don't know what's better, the taste of that chili or seeing how excited those two get from their week long feast.
-
I peel and core an apple, place it in the cavity of the turkey and bake it inside of a plastic baking bag. We have turkey dinner that night and then I pull all the meat off the carcass. I mix the light and dark meet into 3-5 portions depending on the size of the bird and place in ziplock bags in the freezer for sandwich meat in the next few weeks.

Skin it. Cover it with uncooked bacon. Put it all in an oven bag and seal up. Cook in oven. Yum.
-
I like to skin and keep the breast, legs, and thighs, not much left after that. I especially like to cube the breast, sprinkle with Johnny's, and fry with a little butter.

I like to breast them out ....then rub olive oil on the breasts and season with garlic-salt-pepper -johnnys seasoning .. then put in the oven for about 30 minutes on 350 and then melt about 1/4 stick of butter in your microwave.. takes a couple seconds ..take it out of the micro add about 3 table spoons of honey and then take a cooking brush and brush it on the breasts then spinkle some pasley flakes on them ...let cook about another 30min. or until done ....yummy !

Thats about what I have done too. Yum.
-
We use the turkey bags and cook it in the oven like we do a store bought turkey.
-
Normally, I'll preheat the oven to 325, get out a big pan with onions, carrots and celery. Put in about 4 cups of water and put the turkey tag right in the middle. I cook until the pain goes away, usually about 4 drinks and it's done.
-
Pluck and clean ... inject marinade, sprinkle with Cajun seasoning, and deep fry 3-1/2 minutes per pound at 350. Some times I'll inject 1/2 with one marinade such as garlic butter with herbs and the other side with a different kind such as hot and spicy. Yum ......
-
:yeah: :yeah:
I've had TD's bird before.....TOP SHELF stuff too! And he's yet to give me the entire reciepe ;)
-
:dunno: Guilty as charged, but in my defense, you still need to send me your updated e-mail ...
1 to 2 oz of marinade per pound, sprinkle inside and out with the Cajun seasoning, add to 350 degree oil (slowly), and let cook for 3-1/2 minutes per pound. Carve and eat to your hearts content ...
