Title: Westport Trip
Post by: Ripper on March 20, 2012, 05:47:52 PM
Over in Bear hunting we have been talking about those not drawn for a spring tag going ling cod and sea bass fishing. Well I got drawn but I still want to go! :chuckle: I have 5 people going with me on the Slammer so far on May 27th. That's the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. It would be cool to fill the boat with Hunt Wa members, so anyone interested, go to the web site and book a spot. There were still 15 open spot's when I last checked. It's 120 per person and you can keep 2 lings and 10 sea bass. They supply all the tackle and they specialize in light tackle so it's a real blast. Come join us.   Mark

If you wonder about how the weather conditions might be here in westport go to fvstteresa.net you can click on bouy report for current wave height or nw weather conditions and go down to grenville to shoalwater for weekly weather it;s what the fisherman use here.

The Slammer had 13 people friday and they caught 130 bass 26 ling cod and one halibut they are doing really good using flounder and he is out catching some of those today so you should have a good trip.

Post by: Heartsblood on May 28, 2012, 12:41:25 PM
We ended up limiting on sea bass - 240, and lingcod - 48. We were using anchovies and herring. There was A 67 LB Halibut caught and 2-3 cabezon. I think I was the only one who didn't catch a keeper ling. Ahh well, It was still a blast and we all came home with lots o fish! Sea only started to get rough as we were on our way back so it was really nice out there overall.

Awesome pictures! When does halibut season close? Will we be able to keep them on our trip the first part of July?
Title: Re: Westport Trip
Post by: buckhorn2 on May 30, 2012, 01:13:32 PM
Halibut is closed outside but still open inside 30 fathom until the quota is caught the trollers are catching a few salmon in 18 to 20 fathom on the northside so hope they stick around they are just outside of the green bouy line so there close.

In the paper today a fisherman stopped and filed with the police department because he got sea sick and the captain would;nt bring him in because the other people wanted to fish so he called the coast guatd and wanted them to send a helecopter out to get him off the boat and they said no and he said nobody cared and I could have died.

Funny story Buckhorn2: a friend called me while we were driving to Westport ,who was on the boat the day earlier and he told me the story .I asked the skipper and he said : we had a chinese translator with 3 chinese clients - the translator got seasick and called in fact 911.... so the skipper said I better call coast guard because the call will get transfered anyway .So he called the CG and informed them of seasick person on the boatmaking that 911 call  ..... they asked him him if he really tought he was only sea sick and he confirmed that .... after few minutes he got coal from the coasties (some big rank guy ).... so he told them what was going on . Nothing happened .
Yes the guy laid in the head on the floor (there is big head 5'x5' at least ) saying he will die ,die and later he said he will sue the skipper and they want their money back and and  :chuckle:
We had one soul on the boat ,who shot it over the rail even after taking 2 Dramamine pills ....

I said the exact same thing about getting a coast guard helicopter to come get me when I was 12.  I would have mowed lawns for 3 years straight to pay them off if they would have came and rescued me! :chuckle:

It was in a local paper called the Bulliton it always has stuff in it about charter fishing and derby leaders. I guess the guy made quite a scene at the dock as he departed the boat.

The captain of the boat the slammer said the guy was threating to sue everyone if the coast guard flew out and got every person that gets sea sick there would;nt be any fuel left in town. Gas is high down here make sure to top off before you get here. Saw a couple bears behind the house.

When you cook them, the meat turns white.  Many people would argue that cabs are probably the best tasting of the fish around here.  You could probably keep the fillets and make some good buds if you won't eat them.....
Title: Westport Trip
Post by: sirmissalot on December 28, 2012, 06:07:28 PM
I let cabezon go too. They aren't bad eating but also nothing special to me...they aren't all blue either. I just don't like cleaning them. They are armor plated and thick boned, too much work for a small gain to me. Are you saying you'll trade bud for cabbys Jimmy? If so...

I throw back a lot of Walleye. I get some negative looks and comments when people find out about that. Walleye are excellent eating, but some days its just fun to catch them and let um' go.
