I am experimenting with a 380grn arrow out of my Hoyt AM32 set at 65# @ 271/2" draw. This Victory HV arrow will have 175grn up-front. Total arrow wt is 380grn! Guess what speed I will get out of it? The Top 3 closest guesses will win their choice of ElkNuts PlayBook or Sounds By The Elk CD! My chrono does measure in decimals. "Example--186.4 fps! Let's see your best guesses here, one guess per person! If some are real close I may add to the Winners!
Go here to F/B & put in your guess! You might just win! Feel free to scroll through some of the Elk Hunting Tips I've shared there! (grin) http://www.facebook.com/pages/ElkNut-Outdoor-Productions/167018863327658

What do you have on your string?
Peep? leeches? loop?
-
Matt, good question, I do have a set of very small set of cat whiskers on either end, string loop & small meta peep.

Why is everyone playing this one! there was a pick the best trailcam pic not to long ago that no one played :bash: :bash: I already won so GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Riverat, It is legal wt! In Idaho! What I'm testing is an arrow with a 175grn head wt with .340 spine, I'm wanting to see what speed the Hoyt will deliver it at. (already have a good idea) Then compare penetration value against arrows in the 450grn wt range with standard inserts & 100 grn heads! I'm betting the 385 grin or so arrow will penetrate as well as the 450grn arrow? It's all about the right spine & head wt for superior penetration & yet still maintain a respectable speed! Just tinkering is all! (grin)
With so many entries I will most likely add more prizes to the pot!

you guys that have been guessing over three hundred must be tipping the bottle a bit too much !

My bow is 64# and I shoot 420 something and I shoot 302 fps I don't drink
-
326.5fps
-
I shoot traditional but going off what my buddy says, 314.7 fps.
Also, anybody around the Republic area have a chrono they'd let me shoot through? I made my own bow and wanna know what it's flinging arrows at.
-
You guys stop guessing so I have a better chance
-
Today, (Sunday) I'm heading out this morning to shoot through our chrono several times! Yes, the guesses are all over the board! (grin) Good Luck guys! I'll be back!!

This is why I love taking my chrono to the range. People ask to use it and I get to see their faces when their bow is going 20-40 fps slower than they thought. :chuckle:

ok dy . I shoot 72 lbs with a 418 gr arrow at 31 inch draw and shoot 304fps If you shoot the same combo at 27.5 inches you will loose at least 15fps , sorry I dont by your speed inless you shoot a bow with a 5 inch brace hieght . I know that alot of guys use the rated ibo speed of a bow to guess there speed but the reality is when you put a hunting wieght arrow through it they slow way down . I'm not trying to diss anyone just bring a lil reallity to some of those really hi fps .

+1
It makes me wonder how many guys are roaming the woods with illegal arrow weight.
-
Is shooting over 400 even possible? And why would you
-
5 grains is what legal arrow weight is in idaho and ibo for there standards as well. Ibo should be the same w 30" +/- 3/4" draw and 5 grains. - 1 fps for every inch of draw less and + 1 fps for every inch over 30". Anything much over 300 fps would be far fetched but he might just hardly break it and then I might win.

Couldnt agree more. I have yet to see a hunting set up on any bow come really close to the IBO speed. And I was one of those guys who when finally chronoed there bow was very disappointed at the speed compared to what I thought I was getting.

Hey Paul
My Guess is 272.5 fps

Never had mine Chrono'd but I really want to. IBO is 315 and I swear I'm shooting 180-200ish.
-
Mine IBOs at 310 and im shooting 250fps with 27 in draw and 70lbs
-

You actually lose about 8-10 fps every inch under 30. Every 30gr over 350 for your arrow is about 10fps. Every 5lbs under 70 lose about 10fps. Average weight on string is 20-30gr so another 5-10 fps. This bow is rated 321. How could it possibly beat 300? Ibo is exactly 30" draw, 70lbs, 350gr arrow. Sorry if this helps people's guesses but I hate seeing so many misinformed people on here.
