shot my furthest dog this morning, twice!
i went out this morning by some feilds i know got some pictures of some elk and turkey's, went down the road a mile or so and seen a dog way out there, about 850 yards out there. i looked at my data and watched him, he started to come closer to a fence in between us and then walked a long it at 700 or so yards. i layed down took a shot hit im back, he yelped and then ran about 50 yards, i then shot again and dropped him. i went out to check him out and the shot was about 725 yards. thats my personal best so far. befor this one it was by holding over at 546 this winter.

725 yards? what kind of gun you shooting? match grade?
-
good shooting,congrats.
-
Nice Poke! Kill'em all and let God sort'em out!
-
was shooting a 243 ackley that i built and load 95 grain bergers at about 3150 i had just sighted the vortex viper pst in the night before.
-
725 is a long poke... Congrats on your long range shooter.
-
that ackle is a wicked round. My longest poke at a yote was 520 or something cant remember now with a .223, I claim luck but I do shoot a lot.
-
i have two ackley's that i shoot.
i have one with a 1:12 twist pushing 70 grain ballistic tips at about 3650 and my furthest this winter was 546 and the other ackley is the one from this weekend. i love the round, but lately have seen that a fast twist .224 caliber twisted fast running 75 grain v max's will out perform the 70 grain ballistic tip from my ackley. i either need to bump up my ackley load or switch it to the .224 caliber with a fast twist.

Dang - that is a lonnng freaking shot. I cant even picture what it would look like!? I'm gonna have to see if I can range something in my finder just to get an idea. Nice shot man!
-
awesome!
-
very cool - my best is 485 and it had a lot more to do with luck than skill.

What kind of range finder are you using to get a reading on a coyote that far out?

Him or me? I'm assuming you mean the shooter but I have a Bushnell Scout 1000. Do you think that would do it? For some reason I remember reading that it would do reflective targets out to 1000 but non-reflective was alot less, like 400 maybe? Cant remember.

A newcon 2200

To my knowledge I think science states if you don't post a pic of your dead dog, it didn't happen... :chuckle:
-
just like your profile picture rite "yote"

I swear i am not being a pessimist but it seems kind of strange that one could make that kind of a shot on a coyote without knowing to the yard how far. It seems almost impossible to make that shot just by saying "700 yards or so." At that range, to be off by 25 yards is a huge deal. It is not the same as the difference between 75 and 100. Congrats on such a shot, i know i couldnt do it.
-
the range finder said 710 yards i believe when i went out and ranged back to my car i got 725 or rite around there and i shot maybe a yard or two from my car. so 700 ish i had my scope dialed for 700yards and dropped the coyote on the second hit. first hit would have killed him with in another 10 minutes or so, but i hurried that along.
