Title: Goat cam pics (rutting goats and winter goats on camera!)
Post by: shanevg on March 25, 2012, 10:28:03 PM
I've been hoping to get a good goat cam up for years now and finally found a spot that was good for it.  Unfortunately, the spot is tough to access, especially in the winter as it is deep in the Mt. Baker Wilderness.  I was able to ski into the spot this last weekend and was really happy with some of the pictures I got.  In addition to the cougar pics I posted earlier, I did get some AWESOME goat pics!

Even though I've never personally seen a billy this low on the mountain, I got some really nice billies on the camera in November.

I even got some rutting action on camera!

The billies then hung out in that spot for another couple of weeks.  Living in that snow would not be easy!

I did get some pics of the goats when we went in to check the camera.  I'll try to post those pictures after I do some editing.  Hope you enjoyed the goat cam pics.  Not every day you get good goat pics during the rut or on a trail cam period.

Those are great pictures, thanks for posting. You should put a second camera in that same location, or nearby, to make the trip in there even more worthwhile. Maybe even a camera on the same tree set for video instead of photo. Just an idea.

I could easily put 3 or 4 cameras in that location if I had that many.  If anyone has any they want to donate just let me know!   :IBCOOL:

It's a SpyPoint camera I purchase on clearance from Camofire.  First camera I ever purchased and I couldn't be happier!  I put the camera in in October and checked it for the first time in late March and the batteries still read full charge!

I don't know which model it is, but it runs on 6 C batteries.  I'm just using normal Duracell batteries from Costco.  Had 183 pictures on it and no battery drainage at all.  My elk cam is a Spypoint as well that runs on 6 AA batteries and I haven't changed the batteries going on 18 months now.  Still reads full charge.

That's awesome battery life especially being that it was during the coldest months of the year.

I wish for Bearhunter's sake this spot was open for the governor tag.  As the boundaries were drawn last year this slot Wouk not be available for hunting with the governor tag. Knowing a reliable spot were the goats are rutting year in and year out would be great for the tag. Look at the hides on those goats!  Imagine a fully body mount of one of them.

They actually did move the camera one time but it eventually settled back to the original spot (relatively.)

Yeah - lame Photobucket got overloaded way to quick.  They say pics will be back up on the 15th of the month.  Until then I have posted my YouTube video which shows the whole trip.  The end of the video shows the goat pics.

Oh, I thought everyone that had trail cameras had at least ten or twelve.   :chuckle:

A few theives around these parts have ten or twelve.  And many of us have bought ten or twelve.  Unfortunately we have donated way to many to the previous mentioned theives.

That first big billy is a dandy.  Most the truly big billies we find are quite dirty looking.  One big B&C billy up north where I hunt the locals call "Dirty Pisser".  I thought that was weird until I saw him myself.  Now I understand.

I have three Leupold camera's I might be willing to donate.  But, anything smaller than an elephant has to be within 18" (that's inches not feet) of the camera before it will take pictures.  All three are that way!  I sure got rammed from the back side on those.
