I need to find a spot where i can hunt mule deer without the crowds and the high hunts. Im not asking for anyone to give away there spot i just want to find a spot where me and my son both have a good chance at harvesting legal bucks or mature bucks if the offer presents itself. I am willing to travel anywhere in washington if there is a place.
-
C-Post is the spot. Most people don't hunt it for mulies....only grouse down low and some bear. Underhunted, underappreciated is how I see it.
-
...
-
Dont tell him about C-post. Dang, another good spot gone now.
-
I don't know H2O C-post is pretty remote he doesn't want to do any of the high hunts, and that C-post stuff is pretty rough you may need to provide gps coordinates so they don't get lost.
-
Once I get home and have a beer ill work on that. I always feel a bit more charitable after a cool one.

Yes.....you and everyone else is looking for that spot. Those few that have found it , will never let it leak from their lips........When you find your own honey hole, it will mean alot more to you. You can narrow down your search by viewing WDFW Harvest Reports all broken down for you by regions and GMUs.

In all seriousness it took me allot of years to get to the point where we could harvest animals with any consistency if I can give you any advice it is go where others won't. Do your homework the more leather you burn this summer scouting the more successful you will be this fall. Understand that you will not find the secret spot in one season often times you may find a productive area, but it may take several years to understand herd movements, escapement areas, foodsources. In Washington it will never be easy there is no golden ticket, and you will have to make the journey just as much a part of your experience as the kill. I have two kids, and a wife that harvest animals before I get a shot I still enjoy every minute of it I honestly get more excited putting my family on a deer than I ever have shooting them on my own. I certainly hope you, and you son find an area that is productive for you I just think it will be that much more special to you if you discover it through you own hard work, and sacrifice.

You want to hunt without the crowds, so it sounds like you need to hunt private property, whether that is by asking for permission, or paying an access fee. For good numbers of mule deer I would look at Region 1, south from Spokane to the Blue Mountains, and then you might also look at Douglas County and Klickitat County.
If you have the money to spend I know there is a lot of private property in Klickitat County that can be hunted for a fee. Just drive around and look for the "hunting club" signs.

I will help you out! go around colfax this summer and start asking permission! write down every number you see, call them! Talk to farmers, grab the boy (he will help in the serch) offer to do some weekend work in trade! there are a lot of fences out there that need fixed ;) Put a add in craiglist for that area and see what happens ;)
As for the c-post hunt! H20hunter thats funny stuff! but for the rest of you guys/gals unless you have been on this site for more than 1000 post it's not very funny! just being a dick with another person joke :twocents:
-
Would colfax be mainly mule deer
-
Listen to semper.....goid advice right there. No mulies in cpost....blacktail maybe...no mulies.
-
No you will see both! Toward the river is better mule deer numbers and the more north you get the more whitetail you get (timber)! Pm me

Harvest reports are key. I hunt in both Washington and Idaho. I have nice honey hole i Washington and Idaho now, just studied harvest reports and did a ton of hiking!

There is a mix of mules and white tail. There are a lot more white tail than mule deer.

Dude go Scout and find your own spots... ! So many people in the country are getting pathetic, everyone wants a hand out! ( you go find yourself a great spot, then share it on here and see a hundred guys there the next year, see how that makes you feel)
DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH, SCOUT WITH YOUR SON, MAKE IT YOUR OWN, BE PROUD OF IT
-

With rising fuel prices guys less willing to give up freely time and expenses scouting.
I helped quite a few on here and have had 2 of my prime hunting spots ruined because people I helped brought their family and friends to areas after I asked them not to. :bash: :bash:
A sponsor on here, Bearpawoutfitters , sells maps of scouted areas. Would check with or book a hunt with him. He is very knowledgable.

That's one thing I have prided myself on. I have done a fair amount of scouting when I can but mostly on google maps. I have received 4 spots, 1 for deer and 3 for elk from guys on here and do not go there with anyone other than my 10 year old son. There is no way I would EVER take anyone else to those spots. I have never killed anything at those spots and have only seen a few animals there but, respect for someone else's hard work and time is enough for me to do whatever I can to keep others out of there.

:yeah: I'm very selfish about sharing my hunting areas for these very reasons.
-
AS for COlfax not many Mulies but a few here and there. Like someone else said you def want to head closer to the river. Lots of feel free to hunt down that way along the snake also email the wdfw and they will give you a list of farmers who want people to come hunt mulies(however many like you to atleast have a mulie doe tag.)....
-
Try Okanagan County....lots of deer, Hunters and land, but hike a little ways off the road and you will lose 95% of the other "Hunters".
-
:yeah: Set up a base camp and satellite out from there. Keep records over the years about the sign and other people's kills, keep an ear out for hunting stories from people you meet up there and pretty soon you'll have several areas to hunt. Remember it is called 'hunting.'
-
best advice is to pick a area that interest you..look at maps, roads, trail and etc...scout it then hunt it you will learn alot form 1 year of hunting the area if you wanting to keep hunting the spot or not. If doesnt pan out try another spot next year..sooner or later u will find your "spot" I think its pretty easy to do if your willing to hike..most never get a mile off the road
-

C-post is a joke on here. These guys are not going to help you,you are on your own. You are about the thousandth guy asking wher to . Pick a spot and check it out.
Okanagon has been in the dumpster for the past few years.
-
Well dumpster for rifle guys... :chuckle: obviously they arent finding them like the bow guys are killing them

Not to pile on but I'm going to. cwebsterdeerhunter, If you go here:

You'll see your post history. 16 posts and 10 of them are "help me find a spot". In one post you say you've been hunting elk 20 years. In another you say you've been hunting elk 40 years. Either way, if you've spent that much time in the woods and can't find animals, there's something wrong. Many people (probably with less time to scout that you have) have spent a fraction of that time in the woods and get in the middle of animals every year.
I'm not saying I haven't received my share of charity here. I can say that I have received more than I have been able to give but, I do give when I can. The group of people here will bend over backwards to help someone out who has shown the gumption to get out there and help themselves first or have passed on knowledge and knowhow to others but, hardly anyone here is going to give out info to a guy who has 2/3 of his posts asking for a handout. Just go to the political forum on here and you'll see that this place is full of guys who hate welfare.
Good luck in your 2012 season.

C-POST is off hwy 530 on the way to darrington it's a left turn down a gravel road across the n.f stilly. the road leads up to mt higgin's ends at the trail head to the look out.there's some nice blacktail up there .there is a lake also myrtle lake nice area.years ago they planted mt goats up there dont know how they did, there is also a few nice couger up there,no mule deer but there are some big blacktail there its very steep in places the creek coming out of mrytle lake is named dick's creek can be high at times hard to cross also along the northwest face of the mountain i have come across two cabins bulit and used for hunting they are about 2800 elevation maybe alittle lower go check it out if gas $$$$$ is another place is ebey mountain :)

:yeah:... Yikes! Until doublej pointed that out I hadn't realized just how many feelers you had out there for handouts... when you delve through the sarcasm or inside jokes, you will find the best advice you will get is this: get out and explore. If you want quality information you generally have to pay for it; try working with an outfitter. Otherwise, I suggest some time wearing out the tread on a pair of boots.

Don't listen to Hirshey. Everyone knows girls can't hunt like men when it comes to big game.
ps. I've seen the pics. I am 100% clear that it appears that Hirshey is indeed a girl, can 100% out hunt, hike, and just about everything else better than me.

That is fortunate... there is a piece of property my family has been hunting on for 20+ years that we saw 18 folks on last season.... it is private property but more people keep bringing friends without asking the property owner and now there are yahoos running around all over the place thinking it is public land. The owner expressly does not want a soul driving on the land, either, and the last two seasons there have been 4-wheelers and trucks in both directions from the homestead. Pretty sad when you have to go from hunting to policing people that should have taken the time to understand the landowner's wishes. We have definitely seen an increase in people across the board in our hunting areas... private and public; that's part of the reason I started investing so much time into the high hunt and areas that are at least a day's trek from the road systems. I figured if you are able-bodied that is the best way to ensure a little piece of real estate to yourself.

I feel for property owners. In 2010 I took my father on an outfitted hunt. Every trip out, morning and evening, we had to run people off. I will admit......bouncing through the sage in a big 'ol dulie with a true ta-backy spittin' cowboy reading to chew some arse is kinda fun.
Oren.......you know who I'm talking about!!!!

:chuckle: he's probably a lot more intimidating than a 5'6'' doe-eyed lass, too.
-
He is and I'll even spell it out.
Todd Jensen......Orens (of Tanglewood Guides) brother is who guided us. He lives up by Spokane is quite the guy. Nice as can be, family man, quick with a smile, and seems happiest when he is playing roping games with his little girl. We were out hunting and see some jokers that had to literally trip over the no trespassing signs to be walking where they were. Todd smiles and says hang on guys...we're gonna have some fun with these guys. We go boucing along and pull up to the pumpkins, come to a stop in a cloud of dust and he pops out. He stands about 6'4, gets that chest puffed out and gets after them. My pops and I are just hanging back....staying out of the way. Of course the guys had no excuse and muttered this and that.....then got the hell out of there.
I was amazed at how many people ignored the obvious signs.

Yeah, it is sad how many people are willing to be dishonest; there is a lot of public land to be had to yourself if you put the time and effort into finding it.

Yea I think I will just follow Hirshey out this year she knows where all the big ones hang out at!!
-
Could be a lot worse people to follow. Just remember you cant spot game you arent looking up!!!

I need a better picture or 2 of Hirshey so I can be sure who it is I'm following.
-
Its sad to see how far down hill this site has gone in the last 3 or 4 years. A guy cant even ask an honest question without some folks spending the better part of a week dogging the thread doing nothing but belittleing the guy and tossing out the latest "site in crowd joke" repeatedly.
Just a poor display of character and respect.
To the OP; The guys are right. You need to go find your spot yourself. Folks wont give out that kind of info freely. Dont ask "where should I hunt?". Ask "What are good ways to go about finding a place to hunt?". Some of the guys have already given you suggestions to move forward with your search.

Ha Good luck she passed me last winter and went strait up the mtn off the trail she is like a little mt goat wearing Sitka and Kuiu

Yeah, I thought about following Hirshey too, but there is no way I could keep up. She carries packs as big as she is in the high country, and shoots nice bucks doing it. I can't hang with that kind of toughness.
