Title: Drew 49 Degrees North
Post by: klickman on March 31, 2012, 05:55:34 PM
Me and a buddy got lucky and drew 49 DN.  I Was at the inlaws house last weekend, near Newport, and it was dumping snow.  Hopefully this whitestuff stops and we can hit the hills.  Can't wait to chase bears and gobblers not much better than that.  When do people start seeing bears up there?  All my bear hunting experience is either over bait or hunting the beaches in Alaska.  Cant wait to do a little spot and stalk.

Your best bet will probably be as late as possible, I think I would wait until at least the last week of May.

Kind of hard for the snow to come off if it keeps dumping.

Id get after the turkey right away, and check the snow line for bear tracks....if they are out , you will find tracks crossing road .  In past seasons, we have found both turkey and fresh bear tracks at the snow line in late april.  I think its best to get after the turks before they get any education.....

Was snowing most of the day yesterday at my place, rain today, but probably snow a little higher. Spring has been set back at least the last two weeks, there's deep snow in the mountains.

I was thinking the same thing.  I've shed and turkey hunted that area, and I can't ever remember seeing a bear during that time of the year.  Lots of places where they can feed and never be seen.

Thanks for the advice guys. We are gonna spend the weekend up there at the end of the month.  Then we will hit it as hard as work allows in May.  It was snowing up there yesterday so it might be a while before these bears get going.
