Title: Maps and keys available at DNR for spring bear
Post by: Ripper on April 09, 2012, 01:18:34 PM
I don't know about the other area's but Monroe and Skagit Spring bear tag holders can pick up their info in Sedro Woolley. My letter said it would be available on April 13. I called the contact person, Cris Hankey to see If I could go in and scout before then, and he said there was a misprint. The info is available to pick up today, April 9. I went up and got mine and the people there said I was the only one to show up today, they were expecting a rush of people. I told them about the misprint and now they are in a panic because they are going to be short staffed on Friday due to a blood drive. I told them I would get the word out on here, and encourage everyone to get your stuff before Friday. Now go get your stuff!

It's OK to go in and scout, just make sure you have your piece of paper signed by DNR. Oh Yea, make sure you have your discover pass. It's necessary on DNR and timber company land. Add $30.00 to your hunting budget. It's early so don't plan on seeing too much yet. We need a couple weeks of good warmer weather. I'm sure there are a few out browsing around though.

My discovery pass is still good until August so I am good to go.  Picked up my key and maps on Saturday.

Since when is a signature required to hike on DNR property? Unless maybe you're talking about having gate keys with some kind of documentation?

I'm also curious why a state Discover Pass would be required on private timber company land. That would be no different than me trying to issue citations for people coming on my property without a Discover Pass.

Perhaps the DFW guy was referring to if you are behind the gates in a vehicle scouting, in regards to having the piece of paper. I remember when I was drawn you had a piece of paper that stated you were a bear hunter, that you had to place on your dashboard if you left the rig.
As far as having to have a Discover pass for private property (ie loggin company land), I think I would fight that if I got a ticket for that. If its not DNR land, I dont need a pass (although I do have one).

Good to know you can get your stuff Ripper.

THERE IS ALSO ROAD CONSTRUCTION EAST OF MONROE ON HIGHWAY 2 TILL THE 13TH (I BELIEVE). EXPECT LONG DELAYS THE SIGN SAID.

Can someone help me out here.  I'm hoping to go up after work and would like not to have to stop by home on my way up.

1) Do I need to bring paperwork with me, or do they have my name on file?
2) What is the address of the office or what is it exactly called, I cant find anything on Google Maps under WDFW Sedro-Woolley.
3) What is the phone there so I can call and verify?

I know I have all of this in my packet, but its back at the house and I'd hope not to have to stop back by there after work.  Help anyone?  Even a phone?

Thanks!

Look up the DNR (Dept of Natural Resources) instead of the WDFW. It's the DNR office in Sedro Woolley that you're looking for, not WDFW.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear on the discovery pass. You don't need it on private land just DNR. So just make sure you know where you are. I will probably be on both private and DNR land so I got one to be safe and because I will need it for other activities. Also, some of the gates may not have a DNR lock on it so if you park at the gate on DNR land you need a discovery pass.
Yes the piece of paper is for the timber co land. You will get that when you get your key. The timber co will stop and ask why you are on their property according to the DNR.

luvmystang67- you just need photo ID and your wild id if you know it. It is the DNR headquarters North of Sedro on the east side of Hwy 9  about 1 mile North of Sedro. I don't know the phone number, I don't have it with me.
