I got another questiona about the disc extreme to add to your post. If you don't mind. Does the knight disc extreme cock itself with the working of the bolt handle or do you still need to pull back the in-line hammer? wondering about getting the extreme or bighorn and I do not see the advantage of the extreme other than another motion during reloading if it is not self cocking.
The DISC cock itself when you lift the bolt handle, no meed to pull back on anything. It als has both a hammer safety and a thumb safety.
The real advantage for me is that is a bit safer than the open breech MK-LK-Big Horn series in that it keeps the blow back material and cap parts in the breech area. The bolt also adds a bit of weather and debris protection to the rifle. Hunting with my MK I have filled the breech area with those pesky Larch needles and even snow on occasion. Also if you were to decide to hunt elsewhere or during regular rifle season as in our case you could switch to a 209 assembly that is virtually clean.

What is the difference in these guns? Can I put a western kit on the original disc? Can you get this gun in a 26" Barrel?

You can install a western kit in a DISC Original. I think near the end of the Original DISC run there was a series of guns called the 'Super DISC' available in 50 and 45 - those have the 26" barrel.

Thanks sabot loader, I am gonna upgrade my wolverine. I have enjoyed your wealth of info, may be I will see you in the woods i have a couple pieces of property over your way that I muzzloader hunt. you have me leaning toward the Disc. I never thought of the weight forward problem of a bighorn on a sling, but even my wolverine is kinda nose heavy, I use a claw sling to keep it upright. I have never been a fan o fthe thumbhole stocks, but you got me thinking....
I guess I have never really thought of the weight forward thing... just doesn't seem like that to me and I pack mine in my hand most of the time I am in the woods.
Thumbhole... well a year ago - I would totally agree with you - i could not imagine using a thumbhole for hunting... Shooting off a bench they certainly could be an asset but how often do you shoot off a bench hunting???
So!!!! Remember this warning - it is kinda like the one everyone says about shooting ML's - it is addictive... well so is thumbholing (new word). Do not start using one - putting one to your shoulder in a store is mostly OK you should be fine - but do not shoot a few rounds from one and certainly after you have shot a few - do not pop the rifle to your shoulder and sight in on an object - you will not believe how comfortable, how nartural the hand fit, and how quick you are on the target and how you stay on the target.
Where do you hunt over here? Washington or Idaho?
