Title: .300wsm ammo
Post by: steeleywhopper on April 12, 2012, 08:17:59 PM
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with a Kimber Montana in .300wsm and factory ammo?
I purchased one last month and I need to get some factory ammo to break her in. I do not reload, so factory ammo is my only option right now. I was thinking some Barnes TSX in 165gr to start. Does anyone own one of these and have any input on what ammo their gun might like? I appreciate any input.

I don't have any help for you, but I'm curious to hear how your gun shoots and what kind of groups you get. I'm considering a trade with a guy for his Kimber Montana 84M in .308 with some extra gunsmith work for a fancy AR I've built. Let us know what you come up with and how it works for you.

If you're just wanting to break it in I'd go to Wal Mart and buy the cheapest ammo they have, probably Federal or Winchester Power Points. Or are you wanting to see how well it groups with hunting loads?

I have one and it loves HSM ammo with 180 grain grand slams for factory loads. I hand load for better accuracy, so I wouldnt expect anything better than 2 inch groups at 200 yards.

Im looking to sight in and group some hunting loads. I am not going to be butt hurt if it shoots 2 inches at 200yrds. A elk won't know the difference. I bought this rifle because it was light and well, it looks and feels damn nice.

6 of one. Half a doz... oh... Depends man. Don't expect factory loads to tickle your hands.
