Title: Skagit bear reports
Post by: Elk hunter4ever on April 15, 2012, 08:10:09 PM: Ok Ill be the first one to start. I started my hunt off the mainline rd. Saw a few of elk, came around the corner and :yike: alomost had myself a big ol cow right in my grill. After that woke me up I continued driving up into the units. Only saw two rigs the whole time I was in there. Put on some boot miles and saw some old bear sign. Then decided to walk up a little higher in elevation, and found two fresh bear peels fairly close to an old logging road. I continued hunting that for the rest of the day. Now its back to work tomorrow and hopefully after work I can get back up to there . I'm curious how the opener was for the rest of the bear hunters that went out. Good luck guys

Post by: Elk hunter4ever on April 21, 2012, 12:50:30 PM: Well just got back from my morning hunt.Saw one blue grouse and no bear. I went up to a different area and lo and behold there was a fresh peel right next to where I parked and started walking in. Wish I would of had my camera to show u guys. I walked some more and found two others that looked fairly fresh and several old ones as well. Not knowing how much damage one bear can do to the trees it could have been one or a couple doing the peels I saw. I plan to hit that spot hard in the morning. Good luck guys!

Post by: steen on April 24, 2012, 04:33:30 PM: I saw one in Whatcom Co. while riding horse a couple of weekends ago but I'm sure that is not where your tags are for. One of these days I'll get one up there. This is the first time I've seen one but we were much quieter with only two riders and just walking. I've seen many tracks in the last couple of years.

Post by: Shannon on April 25, 2012, 07:00:48 AM: When I had my tag a few years ago, the last few days of April really picked up with sign and sightings. The first week of May was even better. I killed mine toward the end of the first week of May. It was a similar year with lots of snow up high and we got snow several times down low when it first opened. Hang in there and they will show up!

The Eggo waffle folks got wind that we were in need of some extra sugary goodness. We combined the two and have some nicely sweetened alpo all set out for our hunters this weekend. You are of course always welcome. We even have a surplus of sows and cubs if you want to tag out your second.
