There are cheaper new ones available online, but shipping and dealer import are not included.

The Weatherby Vanguard rifles are great rifles. There are some pretty nice pieces of walnut on the wood ones. Offer less, maybe the seller will take it.

Weatherby Vanguards are renamed Howa's.
AT Bud's the Vanguards are under $475 brand new you can find them at Wallyworld for less than that at times.
Print up the online pricing of new ones and offer him A LOT less.

The cheapest wood-stocked Vanguards I am seeing around are about $600 new + shipping and ffl fees, that would get them up to about $700 or so.

In this country I wouldn't put a premium on a wood stock unless it's going to be a safe queen. Out here you have moisture and hard hunting to contend with.
You asked for opions!

Yes both guns are under 550.00 in there. I just had both side by side a couple weeks ago.
The tikka is a outstanding choice. The only guns I like better are my sako's

I dont even have a tikka! Every time somebody asks that is what i tell them. Great value I think. I couldnt talk the girlfriend into one tho :bash: I would seriously consider one of those, they feel 10x better than a vanguard or cheap model 700 :twocents:
-
Amen I have had or have the others you listed and there is no comparison to the tikka!

Tikka feels like cheap Chinese polished plastic to me. The vanguard is a very solid rifle.
-
so turns out (after many hours on the phone with Weatherby) the gun was a late 70's model that is worth a fair amount now... he has had two diff guys offer him 800-1000 dollars on the spot... he got lucky i guess

Thats because they are light, and thats a good thing. Add on uber accurate, and that smooooooth action, and you cant beat it.

Um, no. The rem ti feels light, the nula feels light, the Montana feels light....the tikka feels like cheap polished plastic.
