Any body gearing up? Looks like the fish counts over the bam have took off the last 3 days. Looks like ill be in Oregon this weekend might have to bring some gear and look for a place that's open to fish.
-
Where you going to be in Oregon???? Might be able to give you some places....
-
Ill be in Portland Friday but will have the weekend for some fishing.

the cowlitz in Castle Rock is picking up... or drive up the Gorge to Drano.. be prepared for combat tactics... gonna be 50 guys shoulder to shoulder at the mouth...

you sound like most of the guys I have fished next to down there.... :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
To fish there... you will need a good casting or spinning rod 8.5-9 ft. loaded with 15-17 lb. test.... and some Mag Warts.. color is not important as long as it is Fluorescent Orange, Tiger Strip w/ Fluorescent Orange, or the previous mentioned Fluorescent Orange with glitter (my favorite, and I have one lure that has caught 30 fish)... :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: Cast and retrieve non stop for hours, and wait for the freight train to hit the end of your line.. Brad's Mag Warts are great.....
-
Thanks for the info.

I fished there for a few hours last sat. and there was 3 people there that had fish. 2 people got there two fish limit. They were using maglips (dill pickle I think it is called) with sardine wrap and the other was a flasher with a cut plug died blue.

When I fished it two years ago we stayed away from the zoo and just anchored the boat and still fished and limited both days.

That is the best way to do it from what I hear.

Someone just told me you can fish drano at night for salmon...I call bs but dont have the regs with me I'm at work. Can someone please tell me if this is true or not. I'm guessing you can't but I've never been there so cant say for sure. I know at the n fork of the lewis they open it up at night towards the end of seaon but not sure about drano

What would the fishing be like at night? I've never done it before, it seems the best time we have on the sound is right at dawn or dust.
-
when I've done it on the lewis it was a snag fest(not me) every fish came in backwards and they were keeping them...oh wait its the same in the day time there too
-
The article I rember was using floats with glow tips and drifting jigs...
-
Snag fest big hooks jerk hard and often.
-
Friday report. we hooked 4 and landed 3 to the boat. they lowered the water level by like 3 feet and upped the flow. fish count dropped to 1200 from what i heard... My dad caught his limit and I landed one. it was a loooong day... we fished from 5am to 5pm.... nice hens. my dad and i had a bet on who would catch the largest one... needless to say he bought the drinks :IBCOOL: had a great time. i'll post pitchers tomorrow. BIG thanks to phil stephens. he's the man and it seemed like we were the only ones getting into fish on friday...

You forgot to mention the best place to do this on the Lewis is right in the ladder to the hatchery! I couldn't believe my eyes the first time I saw it. The Gamie right beside me looked equally shocked :o

You guys were definitely the high liners that day....we fished the wind for 5 hours 5 rods and never had a sniff. We said high to Phil from the road just above you at around noon at Drano just after your second fish. Phil is one of the best, great job- Prawns, herring, or mag lip???
-
Great fish guys , yes Phil is the best IMHO ,how is he doing healthwise ?
-
he's doing great. he is on this months cover of salmon trout steelheader. we were using all of the above.. the fish are just really finicky... wish they hadnt messed with the water... but all things considered we made out well!
