Trying to make up my mind. I have a Drift Boat I built. Started in 97 and finally got it wet in 08. I hand laid the hull and got it out of the mold then had a heart attack. The hull sat in the barn for 4 years before I picked it up and started working on it again. Lot of dust on it. But cleaned it up and sanded it and got it ready to finish(had to get Glass refreshed)and had a guy that worked at a boat builder in Monroe do some more Glassing. Sat another year or so because I had Bypass on Heart. Finally got funds together and started again, little at a time over the next few years. Finally done and Launched on May of 08 at Fish Lake. I have used it a few times in lakes trout fishing but its never seen a river. Broke my wrist at work in April 09 and its still broke. Didn't know it was broke till Oct. ER said it was a sprain. Would not fix it because I smoke. Quit smoking but had a slight stroke in Aug. of 10. having surgery to clear the Artery they Found Cancer. Went through treatment but now Docs won't touch my wrist. So should I sell it or keep it to use on Lakes once in awhile?

What would you get more use out of, a pocket full of cash, or a boat to get out on the lake with. Turn it into cash and someone will have their hand in your pocket,......probably a Dr.

keep it
won't mean much to someone else and how much cash would you get? That'd be gone in a flash.

If I sell it I will buy a lake boat. like a Smokercraft Alaskan or a Duck boat sled wide bottom. put an O.B. on it. Something that don't act like a sail on a lake. Really hard to make up my mind. :bash: If anything it will be Aluminum.

Looks like a nice boat, and you say its paid for :IBCOOL:

Sounds to me like that boat has some bad ju-ju. Maybe even bordering on evil. Might have to sell it with a health warning. :chuckle:
The Alaskan can be outfitted to be a pretty darned comfortable boat. And is easily launched and operated when life has dealt you more than the average aches and pains. I surely have not experienced what you have. But, in the ten years I suffered with chronic pain (at some times severe enough to contemplate my own demise) I came to appreciate the simpler/lighter things in life.
I gave up the drifters after my first back surgery. I sure do miss the fast water and the river excitement. It was hard to give up the smell of the wood and what I had made with my own two hands. I made sure they went to some good kids. Ones I felt appreciated the work I put into them and would treat them well. But, the adventure of building them was 75% of the experience. And, I felt that if I began to feel better I could always do it again.
A while back I found a doctor that was able to cure my pain. And though my main desire is to complete my high country hunting with this second lease on life. I am now looking forward to the day when I can taste the saw dust again and smell the spice of fresh cut cedar once more. Whether I will be young enough or healthy enough to reap the rewards when finished I do not know. However, the anticipation of the chore is growing stronger with every completed hunt.
I believe it is more than ok to sacrifice your creation for simplicity and comfort now. As long as you can still hold on to the dream of rebirth in the future. For it is the dreams of things to come that keep us going, not the gratification of our accomplishments.
I will be wishing you the best in your decision. And praying for your health.

Spent yesterday cleaning her up. Got all the green gunk out of the inside. Looks pretty good again.
RadSav, I do miss the Rivers :(after 40 year of hunting Steehead. Miss the sound of the oars and slap of the water on the Hull. But sometime ya got to know when your done. Can't take the cold anymore. Going through Treatments I lost 70# and have NO strength. Slowly getting some back. Riding with my son today taking a load of Taters from Marysville to Warden so I'll have a chat with him about it. Time to get to the Simpler life? My mind says I'm still a youngbuck. But my Body says I've been rode hard and put away wet!!!!!!!!
