Title: Home made Bamboo fishing rod?
Post by: coriantonk on May 05, 2012, 04:14:08 PM
Has anyone on the board made one?  How hard would it be?  I have a fairly thick stand of Bamboo in my back yard and was just trying to think of a good use for it.  How durable could it be?

Any pictures or thoughts would be appreciated.

I have when I was a kid.  We cut the cane and hung it by the little end in the barn until it dried straight, then we wrapped an eye on the tip and a few guides along the shaft.  We didn't use reels just a handful of line with one end tied off to the butt.  We just used them for bass, catfish and panfish.  They were pretty sturdy and held up well for a couple of stumbling kids.

I know that Bamboo is extremely resilient.  I was wondering if it could be used for a Salmon rod, or maybe even for something heavier?  I saw kits on eBay with several different sized eyes.  I think I am going to do this.

I have been considering this for some time. I haven't given it a try yet but plan to soon. I will have to make some photo's to upload for sure. If you do take this on please make photo's and notes and post.
