Title: CVA Elkhorn loads
Post by: BowBender87 on May 20, 2012, 05:07:27 AM
Just picked up a CVA Elkhorn and will be using it for my multi deer tag this year. Im set up with musket caps.  Just wondering on what kind of bullet/powder combos you guys/gals like. Grain weight/powder/pellets???? etc. Thanks!

My Elkhorn likes 290gr Barnes TMZ, 100gr of 777 powder, and I'm also using musket caps.

I tried pellets and had a lot of misfires  :yike: , went back to powder and never looked back !!!!!!  I also used musket caps when I went back to powder I also switched to mag #11's

I use the same set up but when I can get them, I like the TMZ-EZ a little better for loading.

Im using 270gr Powerbelt AeroTip's with 150gr of pyradex pellets. I used to use muskets just fine but now use 209's (no I dont hunt here). Like them so far havent tried them on deer yet though.

I have run the 340 dead centers threw mine as well as the 290g barnes bullets. It really likes the barnes and shoots them well. I run 110g of triple 7 fffg with the barnes

Had troubles with the #11's not firing unless seated really firmly on my Elkhorn last season.  Frustrating!! Are the musket caps more reliable?? Just wondering why you guys choose the musket caps?

Yes! musket caps are better about going off. I have never had one problem with musket caps. I had lot's when I shot the #11's.
