Title: Spear guns?
Post by: Kain on May 20, 2012, 02:58:20 PM
Looked in the regs but didnt see anything about them.  Legal to use spears for carp but didnt give any requirements on gear.  Are band powered spears legal for carp?

Im thinking about making one of those slingshot rigs.

No, you cannot spear salmon legally.  Spearfishing regs are pretty narrow, and one of the rules is that it is ilegal to spear any kind of "sport fish".  That goes for spearguns (banded and pneumatic), pole spears, hawaiian slings, or any other type of spearing device.

I have used the Hawiian sling for years ( in Hawaii) and just recently started using it on carp.  I works well but you MUST place it behind the gill plate and try shoot it into the mud and stick them or they will bolt with nothing to barb them. My  :twocents:
