Title: Duck Hunters, need your input
Post by: jeepasaurusrex on May 25, 2012, 10:19:38 PM
I was talking with the guy in charge of ordering all the waterfowl gear, decoys, etc tonight at Cabelas. He needs your input on what to order.

He needs to know the brand of decoy you like, size, etc.  Model numbers and pics would help. Also what other gear you would be interested in.

He really wants to taylor the inventory to reflect what is used around here.

Thanks guys.

Some snow floaters might be a good idea. I got some GHG last year that worked good. The texas rag kits with heads could be a seller.

For the guys that hunt the tides a lot any adjustable weight system.  So the slip type cord stoppers might be a hit.  Jerk rigs also.  I didn't see any of those the last time I was in there either.

Ditto on the snow geese dekes, everything GHG has and also some options for windsocks.  Texas rags on the low end and silo socks.  Also can they order and keep a assortment of custom calls?  Im not talking about a echo laminate but some good choices from RNT, echo, saunders, JJ LARES (?!?!?!) basin, ect?  And a plus one for more camo in bigger sizes, and something other than friggan advantage max4.  Stuff works great for cattails and such but some darker options would be great.  Buckbrush, bottomland, and cross your fingers, some shadowgrass coats and waders from drake waterfowl.  Dont forget winter wheat camo for ground blinds, lots of green up there.

Gentleman, the suggestions have gotten through.  Decoy selection is still limited but not as limited as it was.  Lots of GHG and Cabelas brand.  I did see some boxes of scoters.  Not all motion decoys anymore.  Lots of  bags and calls to choose from.  They are starting to catch on.

Tealer, on a side note I swore I saw you there yesterday.  Made me do a double take.

"I did see some boxes of scoters."  Are they really getting that popular?, I hope not cause it's a sure sign they will close the seasonit with declining populations not turning around :twocents:.

Not aware that I must be constructive to a retail store that does not support this site. If your looking to push Cabelas that hard may e they should pony up and sponsor the site.

How is asking for input by hunters on what they would like to see in the store pushing the store? People were complaining about what was in stock, so they asked if they could get input from the local hunters on what they would like to see in the the store.

I didn't feel like he was pushing Cabelas either. Seems like the op was just trying to help guys get the gear they want in a local store.

Tealer... I understand your need to support he mom and pop shop, but like Jeep said, how is giving them feedback a bad thing? Pick your "mom and pop shop" say Holiday Market, or Morgans Outfitter in Sedro... If one of them came on here asking what we thought they should carry that they do not should we tell them to get lost???

I think is comment was related to the reported "Tealer" sighting. RE:

Ya'll get a little touchy in the off seaon?   :chuckle:

For the record, I avoid Cobela's and it has nothing to do with selection   :hello:

My comment wasn't supporting or against Cabellas... Not touchy at all and if tealer or anyone else want to only shot mom and pop God Bless...

I think i point this out because of a run in with a resturant i had a while back, I was so pissed off i vowed to never go back. The problem was I didn't tell the MGR why i won't be coming back so there is no way for the MGR to fix the problem.   :twocents:

I have worked with Cabelas when they opened stores, in fact I was at the grand opening at the first 5 stores. They know what they are doing, they chose to ignore most comments. They always have. I try to NEVER shop at a Cabelas, hate them worse then Walmart. Every once and a while it happens were Cabelas is the only option, but I would rather shoot myself. I support shops with competitive pricing good customer service and a sense of community. Cabelas has none of these, none. I wasn't trying to bash them, I was in fact responding to a "sighting".

After two pages of comments on what they should carry that should cover it. I'd never tell anyone to get lost, but really this topic was played out. No need for a *censored* comment.
