Heading to Westport weekend after Memorial day and was wondering if they are selling tuna off the docks or if its too early? any info would rock! :hello:
-
I'm betting it's too early. In Oregon we did't usually see any until at least the 4th of July. I'm assuming Westport would be much the same.
-
Hey guys, when it is in....what kind of average price are you paying for it?
(Whole for home canning?)

Whenever it happens would you mind posting a sort of tutorial for dummies, I think fresh canned tuna is so much better then the store bought stuff and you always have the best easiest ways to get it done, I never canned anything before but would love to give it a try !!

$1.99 - $2.99 per pound usually, plus another 50 cents to get it loined.

Boats usually start fishing for tuna the first week in July. Saw crabs and Prawns for sale at the dock today.
-
Thanks CP!
-
Definitely too early for fresh tuna, as others have said start looking in early July, prices will be higher then though I'd wait until August for a good price.
-
Thanks for the info, now I dont have to panic about $$$ this trip. :chuckle: I might have to hit up the prawn boats though, do you know which float by any chance and what the damage is? Thanks again!
-
I saw they were for sale on float 9 but don;t now how much.
-
As soon as they start coming in large quantities let us know I would be willing to drive over for a couple coolers full.
-
Any word yet?

The whole fleet is out tuna fishing most ran down off the columbia but they will be selling off the docks this week end. Kids left last night and called a while ago and had 75 fish this morning already. The prawn boats on float 9 are out and will be in this week-end they said. I don;t know the price.

We got an e-mail from The Seafood Connection, and he's selling tuna for $2.59 per pound and it you want him to clean them its $3.00 per fish.
We're looking to get some this year, along with the sea bass, ling cod, crab and salmon this year (I hope)

Sounds like fun... I get to work :'(

Sounds like the tuna price at the cannerys are dropping fast with the amount of fish If a person wants fish I would wait a couple weeks for a better dock price the first fish always cost the most. Tuna are biting good the boys had 256 yesterday.
-
Anyone making the trek over to buy fresh off the dock? I would love to make the run or would be happy to buy from someone who is going?
-
My niece called from Westport yesterday and gave me a tuna report. She said the Howard had tuna loins left from last week that were around $3.00 per pound. They would not have any fresh fish until the 3rd of August.
-
We've been buying albacore for about 8 days.
-
OK durn it I am gonna have to road trip, where do I go and what can I expect to pay?
-
Wholesale today is at about 2.75/lb, whole gutted, and 5.50/lb for fillets. We're buying in Port Angeles and further out on the North end of the peninsula.
-
Will they still be selling next weekend? What are the best days to be on the dock? Anywhere a little further south?

Not sure how long the season is, but I expect next week would be no problem. I'm sure there are places further south. Start Googling.

Is Westport a good place to buy crab? No boat, so... :bash:
It sounds like a good days trip to kick around the docks and get some seafood!
-
The evening just got in today and the sign said 3 a pound thats on float 11.
-
South Bend Products, tuna is $2.70 a lb. Forgot to ask fillet cost, last yr was $3.00 per fish. These guys do an amazing job with the fish, always well cleaned.
-
buckhorn2, any word on the prawns yet.
-
There is a prawn boat on float 9 called the mermaid I will look tomorrow to see if he is in. Also on float 8 down in the charter area there is a float shack called the sea food connection and he has prawns.
-
Thanks, just wondering if cheaper to buy from boat or seafood connections, or if you would know.
-
I would think the boats on 9 the Brittny may is also prawn fishing. Only a few boats can fish prawns because they had a moritorium on it and only very few boats got a license to fish them.
-
Okay, thanks for the help buckhorn2.
