Title: Nice sturgeon down
Post by: Ripper on June 06, 2012, 09:06:35 PM
I may not be able to put down a spring bear but I got the sturgeon's number. I went out with FC today during our shortened sturgeon season, and was able to connect with a 53 inch 45 + lb piggy. It put up a great fight and as you can probably see it has lived a rough life. All of it's fins have been nipped and chewed by seals and sealions. Damn those worthless beast's!

I'm jealous.  This spring I caught them from 28" to 7' 8" but no keepers....

Nicely done!

I have fished for them more then a few times and never caught a keeper in season. I have caught legal length fish but not been able to keep them because the season has been closed. One of these days I will het one! I have burned my arms out on tons of shakers and a few OS'ers but never any monsters.

That was probably as much fun for me as it was for Ripper, I still can't get over how we bent that big Frabill net right over like that trying to haul it into the boat!

Nice fish.  White boat, with black soles.  That should be fun for cleaning.   :yike:

The commercials have been hitting them hard. I used to see them swimming around all the time. It wasn't unusual to see 20+ fish a day out there. Now I rarely see one, not to mention catching one. There were so many crab pots out there it was hard to navigate and find a spot open enough to fish in. I have never seen so many commercials out there before. I hope 1 or 2 keepers make it till our season.
The black soles are non scuffing and my deck is all nonskid so it's not a problem h2ofowler.   :chuckle:

That's funny! :chuckle: They can change the rule to read 36 to 54 inches from the nose to the last teeth marks! :yike:     :chuckle:

Sand shrimp is the go to bait in this area. The only other bait I've caught them on is anchovies.
