I chased this monster bull around for months in the Margaret waiting for him to drop me an antler, and finally he did.

Let me know if you need any help and I'll put you on this antlers original owner ;)

When you get all your legwork done, will you pass it on to me so i dont have to do any research for myself.  Also will you locate a elk for me for a few days ahead of time and when i get into town tell me where its at so my boy can drive in and shoot it?

You guys that drew the toutle and margaret tags... your in luck..

They are right next to each other.   You drive south on I-5 till you hit the California border.. continue till you hit L.A.  Turn Left.  Follow till you get to Mississippi.  Turn Right... when you hit salt water, you have arrived...         pick out your elk and blaze away..

I put my uncle in for that and he drew it too. I don't know where it's located but this weekend I'm planning on digging out some old maps and doing some research. Please let me know if you find out what part of the state it's in.

It is right where the swamp land meets the white sand beaches... you can not miss it.. heck with a good satellite map, you should be able to see the huge bulls wandering around.

I found the area on my maps and traced out the boundaries. Since it's so far away and looks kind of steep, I'll probably not do the hunt.

wea300. Gimme yer tag and I'll hunt it. You won't find 'em driving around in your Rubbasu. You're gonna have to get out and put the leather to the mud.

I sure hope everyone knows I'm kidding with a lot of these posts. Having been on here for so many years I know all the "hot buttons". I did draw the Margaret Muzzy cow tag and guarantee I will bust my arse trying to fill it. I've been putting in for bull tags only for the last 20 years (unsuccessfully) so I decided to put in for a cow tag so I could actually go hunt elk in this state. The state actually did me a favor when they divided up the tags (quality, bull, antlerless) since I had max points.

I don't know why everyone keeps saying "stay to the Left", I think the better hunting is on the RIGHT side of the Highway. I spent all last season in there and had all kinds of ELK ACTION and didn't see a single person. Best hunting ever.. :chuckle: :chuckle:

Weyco. has sold out and lots of the Left side of the HWY is posted "no trespassing".  Pretty much everything from east of  Elk Rock to the end at Coldwater is now no trespassing!   You can't get to the upper (east part of the unit) and you can't get into the USFS portion from the Highway either.  Basically the margaret sure ain't what it used to be.  You'll be pounding the brush in the lower elevation, or (I heard) paying for access to the private land near the Monument.   That leaves only one real place to hunt--the backcountry.

I'll be right next door hiking my (we'll you know) off in the Whittier Unit.

You won't have to bust nothing but a cap on that hunt, you won't even have to take your romeo's off for that one!

If you would like, I can get a camo camper that we could sit in, play cards and drink beer while waiting for the elk to show up to our alfalfa pile.  I heard it is a great way to take a big bull in the Margaret.  Afterwards we could go to the Home Depot in Chehalis and hire a couple of "migrant workers" from the parking lot to pick up beer cans, gut, skin and haul the elk out for you.  You won't have to get dirty or sober!

I actually like to work hard during the day and have the beers around the campfire at night.

The area directly N. of the Lake (USFS) is in their bogus "restricted area" with $100 fine for stepping off trail.  From the Monument boundary north (the High Lakes Area) was SOLD and partly subdivided.  Heard the developer is charging and this also blocks access to open USFS land.  Gates posted "no trespassing".  You can still get to the Green River area IF weyco. has their gates open.

Good luck.  You will go crazy in there as all the bulls will come running to you when you use a cow call.  We drew this and thought it would be a lot easier for a cow. 20+ bulls under 20 yards.  They were so worked up, the dominate bulls had ran off with there cows.

It looks like there will be 84 muzzy hunters in the unit Oct 6-12 (70 cow and 14 bull) plus any rifle hunters in there scouting. Take away all the private property, it sounds like we each have one hill side to hunt.

I agree 100%.  I wouldnt be opposed to modifying the Maragret permit area boundrys some, to include everything east of coldwater lake and north to the High Lakes area, and then east and south to pick up some of the current loowit unit.  There are so many elk in loowit now, and only a handful of permits to hunt  in there.  That needs to change.
