Margaret is next to Nordstroms in downtown Seattle!
-
I chased this monster bull around for months in the Margaret waiting for him to drop me an antler, and finally he did.
Let me know if you need any help and I'll put you on this antlers original owner ;)

When you get all your legwork done, will you pass it on to me so i dont have to do any research for myself. Also will you locate a elk for me for a few days ahead of time and when i get into town tell me where its at so my boy can drive in and shoot it?
-
this is an awesome topic!! i drew an antlerless deer tag and need help. can i bait for deer?
-
I will help you find the margaret if you help me find the dayton.

Some pretty generic insight so far :chuckle:

Dude, thats a stud 5X, That is what I dream about hanging my OIL tag on. Sad thing is, that a pretty good example of alot of the bull down there.
-
That shed has a great base but my tag is for a cow. :EAT:
-
Well since everyone is asking I drew a toutle cow tag! Is there alot of elk in there! Where should I hunt! Oh yeah where is it!!!!!!!
-
You guys that drew the toutle and margaret tags... your in luck..
They are right next to each other. You drive south on I-5 till you hit the California border.. continue till you hit L.A. Turn Left. Follow till you get to Mississippi. Turn Right... when you hit salt water, you have arrived...    pick out your elk and blaze away..

I put my uncle in for that and he drew it too. I don't know where it's located but this weekend I'm planning on digging out some old maps and doing some research. Please let me know if you find out what part of the state it's in.
-
Well I was looking at maps of mississippi and I still cant seem to find it! :o
-
It is right where the swamp land meets the white sand beaches... you can not miss it.. heck with a good satellite map, you should be able to see the huge bulls wandering around.
-
I found the area on my maps and traced out the boundaries. Since it's so far away and looks kind of steep, I'll probably not do the hunt.
-
wea300. Gimme yer tag and I'll hunt it. You won't find 'em driving around in your Rubbasu. You're gonna have to get out and put the leather to the mud.

If it's not dry out, I'm certainly not going to leave the Subaru

I don't get it, what is all this talk about drawing tags for different areas.... :beatdeadhorse:
:mgun: :mgun: :mgun: :mgun: :mgun:
I just go and shoot whatever I want wherever I want :chuckle: :chuckle:

I sure hope everyone knows I'm kidding with a lot of these posts. Having been on here for so many years I know all the "hot buttons". I did draw the Margaret Muzzy cow tag and guarantee I will bust my arse trying to fill it. I've been putting in for bull tags only for the last 20 years (unsuccessfully) so I decided to put in for a cow tag so I could actually go hunt elk in this state. The state actually did me a favor when they divided up the tags (quality, bull, antlerless) since I had max points.
-
TURD!! :chuckle: I put in for everything in the Margaret and Mudflow, got zip. Guess I can't complain, got my cow in the Marg last year and Mudflow 2 yrs before that, nice places to hunt. Good luck.
-
More wasted points on the margret tag... U would have better luck sneaking in the Winston from the margaret .... :chuckle:

:yeah:
In all seriousness congrats!!
-
I don't know why everyone keeps saying "stay to the Left", I think the better hunting is on the RIGHT side of the Highway. I spent all last season in there and had all kinds of ELK ACTION and didn't see a single person. Best hunting ever.. :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Since everyone is asking for help finding their units, can someone help me locate Pumice Plains?
-
Weyco. has sold out and lots of the Left side of the HWY is posted "no trespassing". Pretty much everything from east of Elk Rock to the end at Coldwater is now no trespassing! You can't get to the upper (east part of the unit) and you can't get into the USFS portion from the Highway either. Basically the margaret sure ain't what it used to be. You'll be pounding the brush in the lower elevation, or (I heard) paying for access to the private land near the Monument. That leaves only one real place to hunt--the backcountry.
I'll be right next door hiking my (we'll you know) off in the Whittier Unit.
-
So you are saying the area north of Cold Water Lake is off limits?
-

Yeah thats what I am saying ... We have so many people with no sense of humor that you just have to push buttons :sry: :dunno: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

You won't have to bust nothing but a cap on that hunt, you won't even have to take your romeo's off for that one!

If you would like, I can get a camo camper that we could sit in, play cards and drink beer while waiting for the elk to show up to our alfalfa pile. I heard it is a great way to take a big bull in the Margaret. Afterwards we could go to the Home Depot in Chehalis and hire a couple of "migrant workers" from the parking lot to pick up beer cans, gut, skin and haul the elk out for you. You won't have to get dirty or sober!

Wow, sounds like a guided hunt. :chuckle:
I actually like to work hard during the day and have the beers around the campfire at night.

So you are saying the area north of Cold Water Lake is off limits?
The area directly N. of the Lake (USFS) is in their bogus "restricted area" with $100 fine for stepping off trail. From the Monument boundary north (the High Lakes Area) was SOLD and partly subdivided. Heard the developer is charging and this also blocks access to open USFS land. Gates posted "no trespassing". You can still get to the Green River area IF weyco. has their gates open.

Good luck. You will go crazy in there as all the bulls will come running to you when you use a cow call. We drew this and thought it would be a lot easier for a cow. 20+ bulls under 20 yards. They were so worked up, the dominate bulls had ran off with there cows.
-
Good stuff. I drew the bull tag for archery, who else drew it on here send me a PM it would be cool to know a few others with the same tag.
-
From what I'm reading on here, lack of access points will be a big issue.
-
sounds like a bunch of pissed off jealous people bout your drawing and not wanting to help a guy out guess they will get over it when they get that draw. hope it is a good unit cuz i drew that unit for archery this year!!!!
-
Since everyone is asking for help finding their units, can someone help me locate Pumice Plains?
its snugled right up next to the mtn
-
Margaret will be a general season open to anybody with a otc tag within a year or two. I heard.

Dumb *censored* Morons in the WDFW.....

It looks like there will be 84 muzzy hunters in the unit Oct 6-12 (70 cow and 14 bull) plus any rifle hunters in there scouting. Take away all the private property, it sounds like we each have one hill side to hunt.

Fireweed, did you draw a Whittier Tag? My brother drew one of the 2 Elk Tags for anterless in there this year. And yes we know how tough a hunt it is!

seriously? i really hope thats another funny ha-ha thing, i feel sorry for those elk if that does happen, i wouldnt go with in 100 miles of that place if it gets opened up for everyone, people will be getn shot, elk will be runnin all over riddled with bullet holes, arrows and saboted slugs, what a bad idea, but the good news is there wont be to many other units with hunters in it

I agree 100%. I wouldnt be opposed to modifying the Maragret permit area boundrys some, to include everything east of coldwater lake and north to the High Lakes area, and then east and south to pick up some of the current loowit unit. There are so many elk in loowit now, and only a handful of permits to hunt in there. That needs to change.
