Do the guys using trad. bows leave them strung over night for a hunt lasting a few daysor do you pull the bowstring off every night?I've got a takedown recurve that I made
-
I unstring mine but that is just a habit. If it's got fiberglass leaving them strung for a few nights a year on a hunt probably would not do any harm. If it's a self bow of pure wood then I would consider preserving the life by unstringing it. It sounds like your bow might have glass or some other product.

It do'es have two glass lams. on each limb I guess it would be a modern trad. bow if there is such a thing
-
If you have any pictures of your bow I'd like to check them out. Just because I think it's cool when people make their own bows.

Most of the time I unstring mine. Not sure about the mechanics of it, Hornseeker or Pacyew would be the ones to specifically ask. I have left the string on and I find that the first shot usually falls a little short of what the normal placement is, then it goes back to normal. Just soemthing I have found. I have no clue if that is jsut heresay or what.

Ray I'll try to post some pictures later if I can get one of my kids to help,It's beyond my ability

I just went down to put a new string on mine (fiberglass) and the shopkeep (very reputable guy) told me 2-3 days is no big deal....but if it's going to be more than a week, take the string off.
That being said, I'd always taken the string off...even if just for the night.

I have left mine strung for a week while hunting, never did notice any problems. But when I am not hunting i take the string off. Bow still shoots fine.

I'd like to hear some bow builders chime in on this also. I was told by the bowyer i got my last t.d. recurve from to leave it strung unless not using for an extended time. I've had it for 6 years, and only unstrung it when breaking down to go on trips. It pulls 70# @ 28" and my thoughts were I wouldn't mind the blankety thing weakening some. I seem to be wearing out faster than it is!
-
If it's a wood only bow you should unstring it. I know that much for sure.
