Title: Ever see a minnow like this colorfull little guy?
Post by: C-Money on June 11, 2012, 09:39:25 AM: Caught this little guy over the weekend. Sure is a colorful fish. Anyone ever see one before? Looks like muskey bait to me. :chuckle:

Close - that's a redside shiner, Richardsonius balteatus.

I was thinking it had a lot of redside characteristics. Is this typical for the redside in the spawning phase? I've never caught them this time of the year, and in the winter, they aren't nearly as colorful.

It is spawning time, and they do brighten up.
