i have a buddy that drew a peaches ridge muzzy tag. first off im not asking for any help on were the animals are we will be doing our fair share of scouting. unless u wanna hahaha. i was just wondering about road conditions i know a little while ago there were a bunch of roads down 410 east bound from little natches that washed out i was woundering if they are still closed or washed out?

the forest Circus says they are gonna start fixing those roads in '13, but we all know how believable they are. Naches Sportsman is probably right, more like 20 with our joke of ranger station.

Manastash was a real wreck last year for my bull permit with all the road closures and lack of communication with the Forest Service. Everyone I talked to was saying something different, I just went over early and took a look for myself.

You can find detailed information on road closures and a linked map of closure on the forest service website here. Motorized trails are closed til June 15th to dry out.

I scouted that area last wed/thurs of last week. Horrible rain BUT, I was the only idiot for miles. I found Cows with calves on every clearcut. Saw a few (10) Elk with "nubs" about an inch or two high on the head. There are some roads out, but nothing you can't walk around. Heard two elk were sitting all season behind the water up Milk Creek. Last year I stayed in 346 until the permit hunts started, then an ole fella asked me to help him find an Elk, (amazing these guys put in for permits in areas that they have not previously scouted...) Day one we found five bulls, none were coming out of the trees, the guys from yakima, (uknow the guys that have one cow tag and block the whole canyon a whole month ahead of season, with five RVS, tents and cabins etc...12 guys to "help") they came around when we were entertaining two good bulls. they said they hadn't heard a thing, I said listen to this... small cow chirp... the two bulls quietly sound off... these guys go ballistic, get out their bugles and start blowing loud and chuckling etc. Told them the bulls aren't looking to challenge, the bulls just want to locate... the young guns continued making horid sounds. Me n' the ole guy went up the canyon about a mile to a tight spot in the canyon, two hours later we had counted 78 elk, two five pointers and a six. My guy dropped the six. All while we are hearing chuckles the clown going off down the hill.
Back to 346, last year I saw the 7pointer for about 10 sec. I heard someone got him but have not seen any picts, or heard from the gas station guys if its true. Beautiful whale tail antlers.
Headed to manastash? 340? next wed, I need to cheek my deer honey holes...I'm sure every else know of these spots too.

Where you walking up Milk Creek?

I "heard" the bulls were there from guys that were in my canyon.... yeah thats what I thot, trying to get me outta my hole. However when I went down to the station I heard the same thing. i try to stay put each year, I can chase them when I scout...

longrange. Did I miss cow or bull tag? Are you guys wanting road side hunting or backcountry hunting like a few mile hike or so?
-
wish they'd just leave the #1501 closed....forever.
hunting last year with that road closed was a blessing: success for 3 of us, all spike bulls, fewer hunters too.
-
i like the idea of leaving
