I finally drew a modern rifle elk tag after applying for seven years. I am very excited. Last time i was down there was for my dads cow elk trip in 07. we were in the unit less than an hour and had a cow down. But know its my turn to have a chance at an elk. i plan on doing as much scouting as i can prior to season. I do not know much about the area but want to learn as much as i can prior to the hunt to make it successful and make use of the seven year wait. Any info anybody is willing to share is greatly appreciated if you would like to send a pm.
thanks and good hunting

Get in there during modern deer and look around. Your hunt probably won't be much different than your dads hunt. That tag doesn't need much scouting to fill it. Just learn the area, Elk are just about anywhere in there. Good luck.

When I got a Muzzy cow elk tag last year, the Department sent me a map of the area's that had over grazing on. I would take sometime and look around those areas. Do a search on here for the Margaret Unit.....there are a few threads that have info also. But, beware.....it has change since 2007. Land has been sold off and trespassing signs posted.
a hint I was given was hunt around the river and to seemed to be a good one for me.
Good luck.
