I just scored a new are to hunt on private property and put out my trail camera with a salt lick to see if anything was out there
-
I just attached a home made deer feeder to that tree cant wait till next weekend

Great! Looks like the old D40 is still working for ya. Or is it a D50?
-
I beleive a D40 and it takes 6 D cell batteries :bash:
-
I know, and they will only go about 6 weeks on the 6 batteries. It's not too bad though if you only pay $1 a battery. Which is what they are at Costco. Last year I was getting the Rayovacs at Wal Mart, 6 pack for $6.00 but I see the price has gone up now.
I also have an external battery that I use with my D40's. It will go a long time on it. The D40's will really suck the batteries down in cold weather, so last winter I used a deep cycle marine battery and ran it for 3 months on that. It was great. But only reason I could do it is it was only 100 yards from the road. That battery was heavy!
-
I might just get a deep cell battery. I will only have 6 days to fill my tag this seaso for archery deer, and I will probaly watch this property until the season starts  Do you remeber my postings last year on another property? I think there was close to 100 pics on that thread and it went for a couple of months :IBCOOL:
-
Always nice when your trail cam lets you know whats there.
-
So far I count 3 bucks and a ton of does. Next week's posting should be better ;)
-
You can get a power cable from this site: http://custom1enterprises.com/custom1enterprises_002.htm
He has one that will plug right into your D40, and you can hook it up to any 12 volt battery. I've even heard of guys using tractor batteries, which you can get for I think around $45.
If you don't have to walk far to your trail camera location, some sort of external battery is the way to go.
-
Thanks for the help Bobcat!! What is ncie about that location is it is a acre away from the owners home and there is a nice tree that my stand will fit on right behind that camera :IBCOOL:
-
found the link from last year :chuckle: Some of the armchair hunters had a few nasty comments but mostly a decent thread. The property in these pics I have lost access too. They ended up letting a few other hunters on and one of them ruined it by shooting a doe with a fawn when told not to shoot does with fawns....

Here are a few pics of the deer feeder that I built. I got the idea from 400 out and used scrap wood, and leftover nails and screws. Put togther with a six pack and expired paint :IBCOOL: Not the finished product in the picture but it does hold a bag and half of corn cob.
-
Nice...
How would you stop everything coming out at once? Lets say they just sat their all night eating?
-
Cool feeder. You probably might want to test it there at home. It looks like the corn would be able to all run out without stopping once the feeder part is full. You may need another strip of wood to narrow the opening to about 1/2 of what you've got now, but you won't know until you fill it, and you don't want it to not work when you get out there.
-
Here's a solution to your battery problems: http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,97451.0.html
-
I have a piece of wood angled near the mouth the feeder angled to allow only 2 inches of feed to sliver through when the deer start emptying the feeder. I was able to pour a lot in it, and the feed stopped coming out once it filled the tray
-
Seth! Be sure to put some sort of bracket on the inside of the feed pan holong the face to the sides, they will tear the face off feeding and the corn will just go on the ground ;)
-
I will check the feeder this saturday, I hope my 4" screws on the feeder hold :yike:
-
329 pics of deer, dogs and squirrels       400out once again thank you for all the feeder help
-
A few more
-
I hope the buck sticks around :P
-
nice spot! hopefully thats a different doe with only one fawn
-
Yep there are two does with fawns. The older one has twins that appear to be a lot older than the younger doe with the fawn. That fawn looks wobbly on his feet still. Does anyone know what would cause the buck to lose one antler?
-
 lookin good seth! keep on the yotes to lend the fawns a hand.

-
Nice. You got some healthy lookin' bucks there. Good to see the twin fawns too!
-
Thanks! Honestly for the island a couple of them are bruisers  If I get the 6 point he is going on my wall :IBCOOL:
-
AAAwwwwwwww!!! the twins are sooo adorable! thank you for sharing :)
-
So sometimes your feeder looks full and other times it looks completely empty. Are you there filling it everyday or does it gravity auto-fill take a little while to dispense? A couple nice Island bucks on there. Keep them comin!
-
It is gravity fed, and every 4 or 5 days it is empty. A lot of deer traffic in that area
-
looking good seth  figure out your stand placement yet?
-
 good bunch of critters there
-

Yep about 10 feet back from the camera. There is a crows foot that connects at the feeder
-
 sounds good

Cant wait till september 1st

A few more for your viewing pleasure
-
Loving the bucks, and have a rabbit now hanging out around the camera.

-
last batch for tonight :chuckle:
-
Any Idea what is flying in pic 200?
-
moth or a fly probably. but you never know it could be E.T :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Looks lie you have a real nice little set up there. Best of luck on the upcoming season. That lopsided buck would look really cool in a Euro. I love abnormal bucks. The most likely cause would either be a left testicle injury or malnutrition. There of course could be other reasons these are just the most likely. He looks healthy to me so my vote would be injury.
-
Thanks, yeah it would be a Euro mount that would start some conversations :chuckle:
I bet the bug is from bigfoot :chuckle: :chuckle: :tung:
-
looks like a deer ghost look at the tiny rack you can just make it out :yike:
-
nice pics! love the two point piebald, the white spots on his rump make him really distinguishable
-
Well got the news last night :bash: I will be deployed before orignally planned, these deer will get to live another day :'(

Thanks Sebek,
I just made a bowel of soup and added 1 elk tag, 1 deer tag, and 1 cougar tag. It was okay, but a little bland.
