Title: In Snohomish looking to fish
Post by: evoasis on June 21, 2012, 02:02:07 PM: Hey all, I'm new to the area and newer to the forum.. Anyways, I have an 8ft flat bottom with troller/ battery/ oars and I've fished Martha Lake a couple times, and looking to try out other lakes/ ponds in the area. If anyone has any ideas and or wants to fish, I'd dig a partner out there since the wife doesn't care much for fishing, but she can cook a mean trout.

I'd really like to try out Salmon fishing if anyone had any good pointers as well, I'm not looking to get "secret spots" but any suggestions are appreciated. I have a Orvis fly rod, Shakespeare Salt rod, and a couple little Shakespeare small fish rods.

I'd like to land something bigger than the 12" trout of Martha..

Post by: 7mmfan on June 21, 2012, 02:37:32 PM: So I wouldn't worry to much about salmon at this point. 1: the rivers are still really high, especially for a boat/motor combo like you have, and 2: there isn't any to catch anyway. Come September/October silvers and chums will be hitting the Snohomish/Stilliguamish system and the rivers will be much lower and more manageable for your boat. Thats when I would start thinking about that.

As far as lakes: Blackmans Lake, as was perviously mentioned is a decent bet. Gets lots of large trout planted in the spring. If you go a little further north you have Lake Cassidy for good warm water action (bass, perch, crappie) and some nice trout in there as well. Flowing Lake is another good one, same species as Cassidy.

If you want to go after some bigger fish, think about taking up steelheading, but be prepared to catch absolutely nothing for like 3 years. I think thats the average amount of time it takes most DIY steelhead fisherman to land one. In the next month or so the rivers around here will start to drop to summer/fall levels and make fishing them easier. PM if you want any specifics on this. I grew up fishing them and have guided for them for many years.

Post by: Gobble Doc on June 21, 2012, 08:30:22 PM: I guessing with the cooler weather we have had so far that many of the lakes are still fishing OK for trout. My son caught one last night in Flowing lake with a worm. I agree that I wouldn't do much for Salmon until this fall.

Just saw a parking lot full of boat trailers the other day, I too would really like to catch some salmon. Havent caught a salmon in Washington yet and horribly failed at winter steelheading this last season

They are planting some nice triploids in some of the area lakes. The state even has us Trailblazers stocking some of the high country lakes with them this year.

Skyhomish sounds most promising along with Blackman's Lake..

crschralping: I was thinking of doing fishing next weekend with the weather LOOKS to be a lil' drier than it looks to be this next week..

I live on a road off Panther. So close but I hardly fish it. I tend to drive 2 miles to Flowing as I seem to have better luck on the bass and other smaller fish like perch. I plan to give Storm a try tomorrow. Any suggestions for good bass baits? I usually just use nightcrawlers or rubber worms.

Post by: RG on June 23, 2012, 11:24:26 PM: Storm is my favorite. The bass fishing is better when the weather is warmer though. We use trout or perch colored rapalas along the right hand shoreline and docks, (looking out from the launch). I'm not a real good bass fisherman so I'm sure a guy who knows how to use the other bass baits would do well too. I've caught up to 3 lb bass there, my son in law caught a 5 pound fish. Of course we put them all back. I fished flowing a couple weeks ago right out from the game dept. launch using night crawlers on bobbers. We caught about 5 or 6 fat rainbows. Storm has good trout fishing too. People use everything from power bait to worms to trolling baits. While the water is still cool the trout will be active. Panther is a good crappie lake. Roesiger has good bass and trout fishing. You just have to spend time and get to know the lake.

it's interesting you live on Panther Lake Rd. Doug Stroud up at Stroud Ranch Quarter Horses is a friend of mine, I get up there on a regular basis.

Well, I never made it out this weekend. Instead I was up framing in a skylight. Well, I guess there is some more summer left. I hope. I've caught a few crappie on Panther but it always seems to be hit and miss. I've never been able to dial it in where I could catch several at a time.
