I heard from a co-worker today about a 190 class buck taken in about the same timeframe. Anyone have any more details about it? I was told where it was shot at, if no one wants to mention that here feel free to PM. I was just hoping to see someone whack a WA toad.

Great buck Eye Guard!
-
Does Bone know you have been following him in the hills?
:chuckle: :chuckle:
-
-
1) Yes I killed this with a rifle. You may have assumed that it was with a bow since I am not wearing any blaze; however I assure you it is close by.
2) Bone is a level 3 Mountain Ninja (TM) and he keeps giving me the slip :)
-
Since you guys were so nice to me I decided to share a short clip of the kill. I created a pretty good HD video of the hunt including a couple scouting trips and stuff but this gets down to the gritty. Enjoy.
Warning: This is fairly graphic please do not watch it if you averse to hunting or seeing animals die, in general. Also, if you watch this too many times you begin feeling sorry for the buck.
This is only going to be on here for a couple days.
FYI it was a 265 yd shot and I set the camera up on a rock next to me while I was prone. Oh ya, and I tried to gently get him to stand up for about 10 minutes before resorting to shooting him bedded.
-
Sweet!! Glad he didn't break those nice antlers!!

Eyeguard, That was fricken AWESOME. Thanks for sharing. Very nice buck. Looking forward to seeing what Hirshey comes up with. Again...Thank you for not holding that video out on us.

Awesome video and a great deer in a cool spot. How's Hirshey's high buck hunt going? She get one too?

Congrats on some great bucks so far! As for me, this fire season has kept me busy with over 900 hours of overtime since May.. I hit the hills on Friday finally and got into position by making a final push by headlamp to set myself up for the next morning. Saw 3 bear, 5 mountain goats, and 4 deer.. 3 bucks but just outside the boundary. I took a good spill and busted my scope up well enough to put it out of order. 17 miles round trip for a nature hike. ;) there's always general season I suppose! Keep 'em coming folks!
-
wow....the video of the buck is awesome....talk about a tough buck.

A lot of happy hunters in this topic, good to see the great photos.

Got this one on the high hunt.... spotted him in pre-season scouting and planned to pass him for better bucks (wanted something better than last year. I ended up with a quick short (200yds) shot, he was standing in the shadows and had us pegged... didn't get a chance to size him up. Taken with a Benchmark barrels 7wsm.

Nice buck, congrats. Not as big as last year, but nice any way. Same area? New rifle too?
-
Different area... different rifle. It's nice to use a different rifle every year :D I do so much scouting in the pre-season I never know where I'll be next... I try to go where the big ones are. I just don't seem to collect them.
-
what in the world are you shooting!
-
As far as I can tell from his post i'd say he is shooting deer? :chuckle:

We had a couple big boys located pre-season, that were always together and thought it might be easier to double up that way. Of course we never saw them during the season.
-
Are cans legal for big game hunting? :dunno:
-
Well yesterday was the start of muzzle load season. So a buddy took me to his spot. We spotted 4 legal bucks together. A real nice 3x3 with tall eye Gaurds, a heavy 2x3, and 2 small 3x3s. So while we are waiting for them to bed I told my buddy "hey, this is your spot and your muzzle load hunt, I have the multi and a rut permit. I'm not trying to mess up your hunt. So if decide to shoot, I won't do it until after you shoot. So the deer bed and we sneak up. The little bucks jump up first and then the 2 bigger bucks jumped up together. He is on shooting sticks and I'm on my knee. The bucks stop at around 130 yards. He shoots and misses. The big 3 point and 2 little bucks ran. The heavy 2x3 stood there still. Broadside. Idk why but I pulled the trigger on him. Ended up being a perfect lung shot. My plan was to hunt hard and hold out for a buck big enough for a shoulder mount. I passed up about a 24 wide 3x4 muley even. Haha. And if I hit this buck then i don't see why I couldn't have hit the big 3 point standing next to him. If I would have shot before my buddy. I'm a good guy and kept my word. So now deer season is over and after doing my good deed maybe karma will be good to me with my big bull rifle tag coming up!
On the bright side, He'll make a cool euro mount. And the freezer has meat!
-
You had a late permit?
-
I think his buddy had the permit...
-
I had a whitetail late muzzle permit.
-
Trying to post a pic...
-
I had a whitetail late muzzle permit.
Which one??
-
My dad's muzzleloader buck from Saturday. We found this buck when it was in velvet in a bachelor herd of 8 bucks. We hadn't seen him since he had gone hard horned...until Saturday. When the group got hard horned, they disbanded and went their seperate ways for the most part. We spotted him feeding behind a rock bluff just before 8am on Saturday. While we watched him, he decided to feed over the rock bluff toward us. Dad made the 130 yard shot, quartering to us slightly, through both lungs. He and the two bucks he was with went over the bluff. The smaller two kept running, but this buck never reappeared. After giving him ten or so minutes, Dad crept up there and gave the internation "Hell yeah he's down" signal. With Washington down, hopefully he can kill a good buck in Idaho in November. This is the first year since 2006 that I haven't muzzleloaded (late whitetail permit I'm waiting for). It was hard not carrying a gun around, so I'm glad Dad got it done early so I didn't have to endure too much torture.
-
Nice buck!!!
-
Nice!
-
nice high country buck and nice muzzy buck thats a sweet 3 point
-
Nice buck Luke. Did your dad get one yet? I had a big 4x4 white tail come in tonight but he didn't make the last 2 steps over the property line. There was a bear in there tonight too but I couldn't get a shot at him.
-
3 pt resident muley buck 40 yard pin on the run my largest buck so far with a bow.

Here is my story... So I got up this morning and hit my game regs book to see what time WDFW says that shooting can start, which was 0650. Got all ready to walk out the door at 0651 and looked over in the yard and there stands a deer not 50yds from the front door eating... It was just light enough to see through my scope that he had antlers, and I could count his tines (Was a 3x3) so I knew that I was going to be OK to find his shoulder with my crosshairs. I moved about 10yds so that when the round passed though I wasn't going to hit my car or shop while he jumped the fence into our field, I found him in my scope and dropped him at 0653 with a single round at 35yds. Had him recovered and hung up by 0700 in my own front yard and to the butcher by 0930 this morning... First deer in 15 years, stopped hunting because I just didn't have the time with work and life and such... So it was nice to get back to hunting deer again... even if it was only for 2min...

I hunt for food because I am unemployed... So a nice 3x3 right off the bat puts meat in my freezer and saves me a ton of time and money... Made for a great morning.... I am already clean, and showered, and warm and done for the season :IBCOOL:

First deer in 15 years, stopped hunting because I just didn't have the time with work and life and such... So it was nice to get back to hunting deer again... even if it was only for 2min...

LOL yeah, I spent more time eating breakfast this morning then I did hunting... The only thing about it that is kinda depressing is that you spend soooo much time preparing, literally hundreds of hours cleaning gear, sighting in rifles, packing, scouting, driving, hiking...etc...etc... and then it was all over in 2min... But I have always said, my ideal season is to tag out opening day and then be done for the season... Didn't realize that it was going to be in the first 5min of opening day, but hey, I Can't complain really, I get to put a nice buck in the freezer to feed my family, and that is all that matters to me in the end.

Another. At the shot, a coyote jump up from some brush only yards away from the buck. It was most exciting for a few seconds working that bolt on the two of them. One a piece.

Not a valid vimeo URLSince you guys were so nice to me I decided to share a short clip of the kill.
Awesome video and a great deer in a cool spot. How's Hirshey's high buck hunt going? She get one too?

i got one pics later nice 4pt whitetail story later.
OK so story:
got at spot just before daylight this morning. Figuring after opening jitters deer may return to old routines to hunt this feel free to hunt spot. Walking out away from truck coming from this draw way off to the right I spot a deer glass it but too far to make out what it was. I'm thinking a lone deer that early may be a buck so I head towards it. Closer to where I seen it go into the brush turn out to be another draw. So I'm thinking crap will go into that and I'll never see it, but head there anyhows. After waiting at the edge for a while I'm thinking it's gone or won't come out so I start to kind of head back to the left and hunt out towards where I had originally thought to go. 20-30 yards left something catches my eyes on the right. A deer pops out. I grab my bino's glass him and see horns. I look some more and make out a third point at least. I quickly shoulder gun off safety and boom down. I walk up to him just to see him quiver a few times then expire. While skinning him I try to see where the bullet hit, but don't see any holes as you normally see look on head theres a small hole in neck so figure I hit him in the spine and dropped him cold right where he stood.
turns out he's a decent 4pt whitetail buck. Enjoy hope you all like. :chuckle:

settled for a legal buck, the pregnant little lady finally had enough of my 4months of scouting and 2months of huntin and made it clear I needed to shoot the next legal buck I saw. I passed on him a few times as well as some others throughout archery and muzzy but man was my time in the woods a blast! I've had the best year ever and learned a ton!
I left u the big guys, Hunt and Run, knock em down so we can measure them out and quit guessing!

Watched a small 2pt. disappear over a hill then looked back to where he had jumped up from and saw this one standing motionless watching me. He watched me line up on him and put a good shot on him at about 80 yards. My cousin shot a similar buck 3 minutes later and we we're tagged out by 10:30 opening morning. Anticipate it for a year and it's gone in a morning!

Agreed. You don't get cool points for telling everyone it's "a little buck" or a "dink" when it's obviously a good buck. Just present it as is. Most guys, including me, would be very happy with that buck.

I don't think he is putting the buck down and certainly not looking for cool points :dunno: The fact of the matter is its in the 130-140 range of mule deer which is not all that big ... :o I have a feeling when he gets back from Idaho you'll see just how little this WA buck is! ;)
-
BTW the reference to my buck as a "dink" was an inside joke to one of the mods about a past thread more than anything and not meant to offend anyone. As you can see from my avatar or if you have seen my past pics I make no bones about it I try and shoot the largest deer I can find ... Reality is my WA buck this year is probably 30+ inches smaller than my largest buck which does make it a dink but I still like him!

The fact of the matter is its in the 130-140 range of mule deer which is not all that big ...
In the scope of mule deer in general, obviously they aren't big. But they are really nice general season WA bucks. Some of the better ones on here. That's the difference. Nice bucks guys.

I only had one day to hunt the rifle deer season after using up my "husband points" by being gone a long time during muzzleload elk. Sneaked out to a spot I know in Chelan Co. and the .280 had a conversation with this muley. The 140 gr. accubond worked flawlessly.

Took an average sized black tail last Friday, 8mm at 25m did quite a bit of damage, lost most of the front left quarter and neck. He was angling away from me, the round entered just behind/below the right shoulder, crossed diagonally through the chest taking out one lung and utterly destroyed the left shoulder before exiting. The largest piece of bone I found was about dime sized, most was dust. Impact of the round flipped him backwards and put him down in place. Turned a lot of good meat into jelly unfortunately.

got this 3x4 on oct 20th. same spot 4 years in a row ive killed one there. buddy got one there the next day as well.

Well I leave work early give the neighbor a call asking about weather, it had stop raining and clearing, you want to go hunting, sure he says. Pick him up go to closest gated road from our homes, and now its getting really sunny and warm (dressed in wool bibs) :bdid: Walking along thinking hell this just going to be a sweat my ass off see nothing hike . Had almost walked thru the unit when I hear the sounds of something far off going thru the unit, finally got the neighbir attention and point toward the sound, about 20 seconds latter this buck is barreling down on us. Ok I think to myself he has no idea we are here in the road wide open area nice, so I take a bead on him as he keeps coming and let him have it, he stumbles a few steps and stops behind a small tree 20 yard away. Wait a little bit than go toward him he stands up and stumbles around some more than turns to face me angling away, put himdown for good with shoot to the neck. Not my biggest or my smallest Blackie, just happy to have him sense we didn't do our annual trip to eastern WA this year.

Empyre, that buck is super heavy man, awesome 2 point!

Killed this guy yesterday at the last few minutes of light, I get a lot of guff about my fancy optics... But they pay off I prove it to my friends time and time again. I hate not getting after the shot photos but I was by myself and it was basically dark by the time I got to him. It's been a while since I've got to load up a deer whole... It wasnt easy by myself! This guy was the fattest buck I have killed before, he was eating well, it was like skinning a bear never seen anything like it.
It was a really tough year for me this year, all my usual spots were void of activity, even does we're hard to find.
-
Mine had some nice fat but that one is a fatty. :yike: sirmissalot
-
Congrats on a nice blacky. That is a fatty buck, should be real good eating. I hate bucks like that, because they are too nice to pass up, even in the general season. Congrats again, mature blacktails are always a trophy.
-
Thanks guys. I'll be around more, last couple of years have seen a lot of "real life" going down. I'm pretty stoked on this buck, it's been a lot of work butchering him out this week. Taking the trophy down to the taxi tonight. Anyone feel like meeting up in the N. Sound for some ducks or Snows in the next couple of weeks after elk, I'll be around.
-
Nice buck sirmissalot! My buck had a lot of fat like yours, looks like it might be a cold winter.

First post here! Been lurking for a week or so...
I popped the buck on the right last Sunday; the last day of the Eastern WA regular season (10/21/2012)! My biggest buck ever! He's a 4X4 (not counting the mini eye-guards ;) ) and sits about 24" wide and 20/21" high!
The buck on the left is a friend's first deer that he bagged the night before. Both are mashers for us!

Yacolt Weyco tree farm. 7:20 am today.
Just a nice 2x for steaks and sausage.
-
nice work appyacres. looks yummy. :chuckle: :chuckle:

What drives the development of antlers? The buck I shot had a much larger/thicker body than that, but his antlers were a shorter, uneven 2x2 with thicker beams.

Yours was an older buck. Many of the bucks I've killed are second year two points, meaning they are a two point two years in a row. Yours sounds like what I would call a second year two point, a 3 1/2 year old. Mostly genetics is my guess.
-
Got one!
.
Thts a sweet buck!

Haven't posted in a long while, though I've been lurking some. Anyway here's a little guy I took last weekend...

Where did you get this buck? Might have the sheds off him

My first ever Washington deer and first ever blacktail. Been hunting hard for over a week and finally it pays off. Meat in the freezer! Was out at at 0700 and by 0900 had this guy on the ground and gutting him. Had him at the butcher by 1100 and was home by noon awesome morning of hunting. Awesome thing is i got him with my .357
-
My dink 2x3, but let me say, I earned that one. Ugh...
-
Why put down your own buck, especially when its a dandy washington buck
:o I have a feeling when he gets back from Idaho you'll see just how little this WA buck is! ;)
You should post it up along with all the other 180 bucks youve killed. I'm sure the guys on the forum would love to see your trophy room with all your BIG BUCKS!!

Congrats Justin...that's a good one.

OK, maybe it's just me, but this looks like the best year for antlers that I have seen since joining this site. Maybe it's the wet spring, maybe it's the number of members on here. Congrats everybody!
Here's PathfinderJR's muley and my buck this year. Our deer season got a little goofed up with other obligations, so no big ones, but better than tag soup! ;)

My Idaho Buck. Cool points....
Hell of a buck. Congrats. Now calling that one a dink, that would be fishing for cool points. ;)

This year i decided to switch from archery to put in for a late season quality tag as my points have ben building up. No dice :bash:. As i was coming up with plan B my boss invited me to come along with him and a few other guys to his leased land in Asotin, boy was i stoked cause i have seen the pics and heard the stories over the years. The only problem was i had to wait until wednesday to head out cause work was just to busy. :bash: this was gonna be the longest few days of work ever knowing they were already down there giving bucks dirt naps, and i was only staying until friday cause of the phaesant opener. So wednesday finally comes and i head out about 8 am to be able to hunt the evening. make it to camp about 2:30 and by 4 had already found a legal buck but not something i wanted to shoot in the first few hours of hunting. that night in one of the back canyons another guy in our group had shot and missed and they watched the deer completely leave our ground. so the next morning we head back to the back canyon hoping the deer had returned during the night but no such luck so back to camp we go to come up with another plan. when we pull into camp 2 guys in our group that had already notched their tags are anxiously waiting for the first group to return as they had spotted a decent buck downriver. park the quads, jump in the pickup and off we go. about a mile down river and there he is about 1000 yards or so up the hillside and for those of you that know that country it is beyond STEEP! he proceeded to bed down behind a rock outcropping where only his head and horns were visible, so up the hill i go. the first rocks i come to i range him at 370 with still only a head shot so time to sneak closer. get to 250 with still only a head shot so i play the waiting game with him for about 20 minutes with no action. i finally got impatient and figured if i got to the next rocks i would be even with him on the hillside about 100 yards away but as i was closing the distance he either heard me or got my wind and was gone by the time i made it to the rocks :dunno:. luckily my buddy was able to drive around the other side and caught him just as he was bedding down in his new hiding spot so back down the mountain i go. this time instead of hiking up to him we took the road up to where it reached the top peak and only had to walk across the top of the ridge. it was alot longer of a hike by way easier. got to where he should be and there he was 300 yards away looking straight down at the other members of our party who were having lunch and watching the entire stalk take place. after watching them for about 15 minutes he decided to head straight away from us without giving me a shot. finally about 325 yards he turned up the hill and gave me a walking broadside shot. i shoot and hit him a bit too far back with the .300 weatherby but take out his back legs in the process. 1 more round to finish him off and deer meat in the freezer! my first mule deer and still have a full day before i head out bird hunting which also was a major success! first time i have ever hunted both on the same trip and boy was it sure a blast. :IBCOOL:

I only had one day of the late buck season to help the old man fill his tag. I covinced him to grab his bike so we could distance ourselves from all the other hunters. Well at 0730 this little guy steped out of an alder draw at 50 yards. Its not the buck we were hoping for but it will tast better than the tag. I strapped the buck to my bike and rode it out 3 miles. We were home with the buck hanging and showeredd by noon!
-
Do you have any pitures of you riding those bucks :chuckle:
-
We didnt get pics untill we got back to the truck but the old man almost crashed his bike from laughing so hard!

Nice job, the bike is the only way to go!

My First Deer/667
My boyfriend left for a hunting trip to Montana on Friday, so his cousin took me hunting Saturday out to vail.
At bout 10AM we spotted a nice 2pt in a clear cut. He was standing broadside staring right at us. I raised my rifle to get ready to shoot and i was so shaky i couldn't even find him. So we inched our way forward and i laid down and propped my gun up on a stump. I ended up making a perfect shot! Dropped my first deer in his tracks at about 100 yards. We went over to take a look and after i seen him, I was so excited i didn't know how to feel.. i cried a little. Tears of joy though! I helped him clean the deer up and i got to learn a lot about how to properly do it all. We carried him out of there to the truck and headed home.. He even stayed and helped skin him.. Took him out to the butcher today, the meat alone weighed out to be 103lbs. Made me feel good.
I am extremely thankful for him taking me out there to help me get my first deer.
Thanks again cem3434 for such an amazing first experience :)

My brother shot this buck yesterday evening just before dark. Rained hard all day but we stuck with it and got rewarded.

Lets try this again!

Got my first buck opening day of late season in 117, thanks to DBHawthorne. He knows what the deer are thinking before they do! Just got a call tonight from Eggers that my meat is ready and Randy Steele is doing the mount for me.
Rifle is a AR in .300 Blackout that I built for the occasion. I think I walked around in a daze for about 10 minutes after the shot! It was a ton of hard work (before AND after), but it was all worth it! Still stoked every time I think about it!

Glad to see that your are using Randy Steele as your taxidermist
. He is all I would recommend. He is currently working on my archery buck.

Well 6 nights in the blues paid off. My dad and I had a great 6 days in the mountains. Rut activity was kind of sporadic. Seems like alot of smaller bucks were rutting their tails off and the bigger boys were still skiddish. I think alot depends on the deer itself/elevation etc. He made a great shot on the big 1 early in the week taped him at 21" outside spread. One of the biggest straight up 4x4s I've seen in person.I jumped a gnarly looking nontypical on the second to last day out of some crp and he proceeded to run away at mach speed. Needless to say I missed on him.I ended up passing up on a few nice 5x5s and 5x4s waiting for a stud like his but was happy to connect on a meat buck on our last night. Just got done with a backstrap and an egg as a matter of fact ;) Great to see all the success this year for the members this year

A couple of late whitetails. First time my brother and I have hunted deer with the same weapon since 2005. Was pretty fun hunting with the kid. We both cut mohawks in our hair before we left because...well, he wanted to. He missed two bucks that were a lot better (damn rutting whitetails won't sit still), but he was happy with his buck on the last weekend. After shooting a big whitetail last year, he was due for a smaller buck anyway.

Thanksgiving Day - mid 120 class
-
Got this guy in 460 yesterday morning while walking the perimeter of a big clearcut. Hunted birds as a kid but this is my first deer season. I think I'm hooked!
-
I had a great opening morning. I have had a cam out for close to a month with no real shooters on it but i knew there there. I hunted from a ground blind on a well used trail. Right at first light I could here deer moving down the trail. First came a doe and hot on her trail was 5x6 at 20 yards. I grunted and the buck put on the brakes quartering away. I drew back and hit him perfect double lunged him. I waited a few hours to make sure he was down for good.
My biggest buck to date. rough scored him at 138 inches. When I was tracking him I saw a bigger buck 160 class with a giant kicker off its left beam. I'll get hi next year.

I did pretty well hunting this year; limited out on doves, did very well on my quail/partridge hunt, and got my deer. The only unsuccessful trip was my elk hunt and that was cut short.
I found my buck bedded with three other bucks in a steep draw in the afternoon, and he was the only legal one. After spotting the group it took me and my hunting partner what felt like an eternity to look through them and convince ourselves that he was good for the taking. After a short stalk I started to get settled and the group became uneasy. They got up and started to walk up to go over the ridge. He was quartering up and away from me so I put the cross hairs on his shoulder, plus the correction for him walking up and away from me, and pulled the trigger. As my gun recoiled up I saw legs go sky high in my scope, I racked another round, got back on target for a follow up shot and he was sliding down into washout in the center of the draw kicking furiously. About 2 seconds later he came to a stop dead as a doornail. The shot went through his shoulder, ribcage, and out through the neck, perfectly stopping at the hide. The only blood shot meat was in the neck. I couldn’t have asked for a better hit.
His rack isn’t going to set any records, but he is a big boy being over 200lbs. Lots of tasty meat.

2012 muzzy whitetail
-
I knew he was a big, pretty mature deer when I shot him... despite the fact that he was only a three point. He ended up aging out at 4.5 years old. So I felt really good about that. My guess is he just didn't have the genetics to grow the mass I wish he would have. All and all, I'm still thrilled to have harvested him and would pull the trigger again in a heart beat.

He broke the g-4 a week or so before I shot him. I suppose it could have been from fighting but I don't know. He had the g-3 when I shot him and broke it off when he crashed. I couldn't find it but didn't spend much time looking either.

My late season archery whitetail!! Killed on 12/12/12
-
This is my 2012 buck, shot him about half hour into opening day. We spotted him trotting up a hill behind three does. Not much of a story, he stopped just before the top and I hit him from about 275 yards. He did not drop right away, he ran over the top of the hill and my son and I could not see him anywhere. So we continued down the hill and he jumped up and ran up the next hill where i put a second bullet into him and he still ran more, but he dropped maybe 20 yards from there. This is my second buck ever with two 4 pts. two years in a row, this is the biggest so far. Had a lot of fun being able to have my 12 yr old daughter and 10 yr old son with me. P.S we all wore orange for the hunt, just enjoy pics without them.

good lord! some one did some hiking! you had a great year!

This is my wife's 2012 Blacktail 3x3 w/eyeguards. We sat in a deep timber groundblind during a stormy afternoon. It was late October during the rut. We used a doe bleat and an occasional grunt. I heard a grunt like sound but wasn't sure because the wind was blowing. About 10 minutes later I heard another grunt, this time close and more clear. Then came this buck, head down and licking his lips. 10 yard kill shot!!
-
My 2012 2x3 Pasayten Mule Deer taken on the last day of the season. My 7 year old son was in a groundblind with me. 5 does came funneling down into a bottom we were sitting in, they walked right by us at about 5 yards away. This was enough to get my son super excited. I looked up and saw this buck trotting toward us at about 100 yards. I whispered to my son, "Buck!!! Don't move and just watch." I dumped him at about 80 yards. It was my sons first experience harvesting a deer and he loved every second of it. It was a day I will never forget and I'm sure he won't either!

And he'd have loved it if you shot a spike or a doe. Kids know how to enjoy hunting and spending time with dad. Great job!
I still remember being with my dad the first deer I saw him take. I was so excited, even though it was a small spike. We stared him down in a vine maple patch at about 30 yards while dad grew antlers on him. Then dad got excited when I ran up to the deer and proclaimed, "It's a doe!" The spike had landed with his head thrown back and the short antlers buried in the maple leaves. Put a scare in dad for a few seconds. lol

This is my Buck Of A Lifetime guys! It was taken this year in Idaho DIY Public Land hunt. My son & I were together when we glassed this guy up, that in itself was special to me. The icing on the cake was this guy is a bruiser, neither of us had a clue how big he was until we made our way over to him, you can see the country is steep & rugged but it was all worth it! I don't think I'll ever top him but I'd like to see my son do it! (grin) It's a hunt the two of us will never forget! Thanks for looking!

Guys thanks! Yep he is truly a keeper! (grin) He went just under 210" & yes it was cold that whole week, it had rained & snowed on us everyday we were there scouting the area & then finally hunting it. It was rain/snow mix right there when I put him down. It was a Father/Son memory builder. Thanks guys!
Hope you don't mind a 2nd photo, here's my son & I both.

elk nut was that a draw unit ? Congrats again he's a stud !
-
Yes sir, it was a Nov. 10-24 draw area here in Idaho. Funny thing is no one even wants the area much because every year it has a regular deer & elk season with bow & then rifle opens in Oct & ends in early Nov. Shortly after this season opens & there usually aren't any bigger ones to go around because of the pressure it gets. I put in for it because there are fewer hunters then & was looking for a 150"-160" deer, lord knows I never dreamed of something like the one we took! Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, right time right place! Thanks!

If I were to dream up a perfect antler configuration for a muley; elknut1 your buck would be him! That's a buck your great grandkids will be bragging about. Congrats.

Those do look nice. Did you do it yourself, or have them done?
-
Here is some photos of a couple of benchleg, cascade blacktail muley's whatever you want to call them. These deer were havested 3 hours apart on oct 23 last year. This is my first true 4pt after many 3x4's bucks. The 3pt in the photos is my Buddy's biggest too. We can't wait until Oct. We have seen much bigger bucks in the area while scouting.

I have been hunting in Washington since 1979 and only missed harvesting a deer 2 years.I have hunted blacktails, mulies and whitetail.I havent' killed that deer of a lifetime but usually take a mature animal and leaving the youngsters to grow up.This is a 5/6 yo,5x6 mule deer buck taken at the Pasayten wilderness border last oct. ,modern with my 75 yo. model 99-.300 savage,150gr core lokt handload. The buck was crossing a rock slide at about 130 yds.I took the neck shot and no follow up was required.Weight was about 300#s.My 6 hunting pardners took good bucks. The big one, 6x6 (28") weighted about 350#s.I was hunting almost to the last day to take this one.Weather was raining hard during my shot. The 3 point rule is resulting in better and bigger bucks.pcal ps:The dog is my grouse dog,Mac.Lewellen setter.

Great bucks pcal, welcome ....

Very nice pcal. Welcome to the site..

Thanks to all your replys.I only just found this forum and will tell my hunting buddies of it.I am slowing down and don't know how many years I will be able to get up these mountains so its nice to see the youngsters getting introduced to hunting. My sons(2) were ok hunting grouse but only one has went big game hunting with me.He loves to get out but seems that work keeps him from going the last few years.I love to get out and hunt mushrooms, too and that is how I got here.I was looking to see if there was a forum for mushrooming in washington and came upon this forum.lol I have went out 4 times this yr,from Blewett Pass to Rimrock for morels and spring boletes but had limited success with only about 5#s per person each trip of morels and only about 6#s of boletes on the last trip with none found up to then so I was looking to see how others have done.I will check in every so often to see any news on prospects for this comming fall for deer.I go out for mulies in the the gardner or chewuch and never closer to the road than 2 miles.I dont' go out for elk as its usually too much for a single person to carry out 400#s of meat 5 or 6 miles when that person is past 60 yo.I have carried up to 180lbs on my back 6 miles and I only weight 155lbs.I carried one mulie boned out 8 miles from north of dollar watch mt to the billygoat trailhead one early season hunt.Don't want to do that again.I walked out the last 3 miles with no boots on,only 3 pairs of socks because of blisters. Those old mountain climbing boots were hell.I would tape my feet and redo them twice a day with a heavy pack and change socks ,too.I use a better boot now and put coconut oil on with double socks to prevent those blisters.Seems to work. Here are a couple of my hunting buddies with the big deer of our camp,2012.He broke two deer carts before getting him to the road.Estimated age was 9 because the teeth were at the gumline.later, pcal

Better late than never. My 2012 late archery buck. Spent first week in stand w not a lot of big buck sightings but in the back of my mind I knew I had some decent bucks cruising around my house as well and ended up taking this guy on my property behind my house.

Our deer carts are hurting thats for sure.On one of our carts we put on wheelchair wheels and one has already broke. The trails are narrow with washouts everywhere. The forest service has no money to do maintenance.I cut down three dead trees to span one washout and threw rocks for 3 or 4 hours to fill over the trees.I hope its still holding for this coming season. Here is another buck one of our group got.He was maybe a year younger than the one I took but scored better on the rack.
-
Dang nice bucks pcal

Right on, Fletch....congrats.

Yeah, and has the *censored* ever invited me to go with him to Montana :chuckle:
(Can I use the word *censored* without being banned? He is a good friend, so I should be able to.)
-
Sweet buck fletch lets here the story on that one!

The weather is the most exciting thing about this story...after hunting day 1 in 60+ degree weather and not seeing much, we headed out on day 2 into a different direction and different temps at 30 degrees. Alot more rut action in the cold...after seeing multiple bucks we spotted a real nice buck and after a 4 hour stalk my buddy killed it, 24 inches nice long tines (I dont have a pic sorry). After packing that buck out we took a goat trail of a road through BLM and started parallelling a large ravine. We stopped at one point and hiked over to check it out. Wind was blowing and real cold...big storm blowing in and starting to spit snow. there were some does across the ravine on the hill...after glassing a bit my buddy said hey where did the does go? I was looking around and he said urgently...look down... and this buck was standing there looking up at us. My buddy just said shootshootshootshoot...so I got adjusted to a solid rest the wind was a whipping and shot him about 150yds...I still dont know where he came from...must have been laying down there the whole time and we were looking over the top of him...26 inches wide. After that...snow snow snow and wind...long slow trip across Montana at 45 mph.
-
My first buck.

Thats a happy day! Congrats

To make a long story short. It was hands down one of the funniest hunts I had ever been on! After hunting hard for two days by myself that was the only deer I saw.But I have to give a big thanks to my hunting buddies who all helped out with preseason scouting. I was lucky enough to go again on the same hunt later in the week because my buddies dad also had the same tag and we were able to get him a nice 3x3 buck.
