Does anyone know where there are some good rabbit hunting areas to run dogs? I am needing some new scenary for me and the dogs to do some rabbit hunting. Thanks
-
You don't say where you live. The river bottom in the Yakima Valley has tons of cottontails.
-
Any places near Vancouver?
-
Sorry, I'm up in Graham, but will do alot of traveling to hunt. I already travel to Oregon and Idaho to hunt the big hounds, so a drive don't hurt me.
-
have you tried the game release siteS @ vancouver lake and frenchmans bar?
-
You could run them in my back yard :chuckle: My dog caught one the other day and tried to eat it. The rabbits were thicker earlier this spring, but for some reason the population has declined by a half dozen ;). Anyway there are still some around here. I think they like my 5 ac fenced property because the coyotes don't come in....and they aren't too worried about a 12.5 yr old lab.
Seriously, you should listen to Jerbear.......I always read about how the rabbits are thick in the Yakima Valley.

The pheasant release sight on the navy property on whidbey island is the best I've ever seen. lots and lots of rabbits. it s mostly medium to small clumps of black berry bushes and some scotch broom. lots of shooting lanes to hack old thumper in.

Hey nwhoundhunter,
Let us know how you did ;)
-
Well ran the little guys down at Ft Lewis saturday morning and afternoon and only found 2 rabbits, both at the same area. Ran them down at Skookumchuck today and didn't do any good, some old tracks, but nothing good. Still needing a good area to get some younger dogs fired up.

Right on got a little action.

A little yes, need to get more though. They do a great job on the hares, I just need the snow to fly so I can get them up in the high country

I've seen lots of tracks in the heavily grown sage brush areas of the saddle mountains. I go up there for chukar from time to time once the snow flies. If you take B road off of hwy 26, theres an open gate with switchbacks.. that's the part where i see the tracks, bout half way up the mountain. Any farther west of that road there isn't and sage cover for them for the most part. Havn't been over there this year though.
